Hongshan Square
Hongshan Square was built in 1991. In order to improve the urban environment and enhance the urban function, Hubei Provincial People's government and Wuhan Municipal People's government carried out the overall reconstruction of Hongshan Square in 1999. The reconstructed Hongshan Square is connected from east to west, the surrounding facades are renovated and surrounded by big trees, forming an open large-scale comprehensive city square with a total area of 108000 square meters (equivalent to 257 basketball courts), of which the central square covers an area of 60000 square meters. It is the square of the top ten cities in China.
On December 28, 2013, Hongshan Square, which has been away for five years, was reopened to the public.
Main attractions
From the east to the west, Hongshan Square is divided into three parts: Dong Biwu Memorial square central square, activity oriented sunken square and leisure oriented music fountain leisure square. The square retains the original bronze statue of Dong Biwu and 105 cedars. The 4-meter-high bronze statue of Dong Biwu is located on the east side of the square. Around the memorial platform, 56 carved columns symbolize 56 nationalities. Behind the statue, 105 cedars symbolize the 105th anniversary of Dong's birthday when the statue was erected. The square is newly planted with 20000 square meters of evergreen lawn, 18 decorative pillars and pedestrian paths
Leisure seats, lighting facilities and Chu pavilion are paved with granite "fire phoenix" and five large relief sculptures. More than 500 tall trees form a green belt around the square. The square is the largest city square in central and South China and one of the top ten cities in China.
Dong Biwu Memorial square
The central square is full of green grass, morning dew and colorful spring. The central square is divided into three major scenic spots from east to west. Dong Biwu Memorial square, 105 cedars, green and straight, surrounds the bronze statue of Dong. The arc-shaped landscape wall and the surrounding carved railings are solemn and quiet.
Sunken Cultural Plaza
The area of the central part is 1521 square meters, which is paved with natural stones. The huge fire phoenix spreads its wings and wants to fly. Two huge relief sculptures, which are made of silk, calligraphy, painting, bronze and lacquerware, are inlaid on the north and south sides of the central part "The legend of shooting the sun" tells the long history of Chu culture; the blue stone reliefs on both sides of the central part are yellow crane tower, Qingchuan Pavilion and Jianghan pass, which are integrated with the wild and unconstrained cursive calligraphy of ancient and modern celebrities, symbolizing the historical changes and development footprints of the three towns in Wuhan; the gorgeous flower beds on the upper part and the jumping spring make people feel relaxed and bright in the massiness.
Two groups of reliefs, three murals and a "fire phoenix" totem show the charm of the square the spirit of Chu culture.
"The legend of shooting the sun" takes the image of Hou Yi shooting the sun in Chu paintings as the theme, supplemented by the hunting and entertainment scenes of mixed human and God, which reflects the powerful style of Chu people Kong Wu.
In the two groups of reliefs, "heaven and man dance together" takes the Phoenix totem as the center, accompanied by the pictures of cars and horses traveling, drum beating dance and chime striking, which shows the mysterious world of "the mixture of man and God, strange and strange" in Chu art.
The three murals: "white clouds and Yellow Crane", "Qingchuan calendar" and "Jianghan bell" are respectively drawn from the flood prevention monument in Hankou Riverside Park, the beautiful scenery of Hanyang Qingchuan Pavilion and the majestic posture of Wuchang Yellow Crane Tower. The three landmark buildings of the same age, different styles and different dynasties comprehensively reflect the three towns in Wuhan.
"Fire phoenix": on the central floor of the sunken square, 4458 pieces of granite inlay the ancient Chu totem "fire phoenix" into a huge pattern, covering an area of 2500 square meters, making it the largest square granite pavement in China, leaving a vivid Chu culture brand for Jingchu.

Reconstruction of Hongshan Square
The square is a large-scale city square integrating science and Technology Park, sports park central square, cultural gallery, information gallery and viewing gallery. It has fresh natural atmosphere, strong cultural atmosphere, bright atmosphere of the times, and different needs of different people at different levels. It not only fully displays the profound cultural heritage of Jingchu, but also artistically integrates the surrounding environment and reflects the contemporary landscape style.
Almost every day, Hongshan Square attracts a large number of people for leisure and entertainment. However, according to the notice of the municipal government, Hongshan Square will be demolished and rebuilt at the end of 2008 to give way to the construction of metro lines 2 and 4. This is a bad news for the people of Wuhan, because the construction of the subway will undoubtedly make the sinking cultural square of the essence of Hongshan square a history. The Dong Biwu Memorial square and the music fountain leisure square on the top will also be destroyed. This decision has been opposed by the public and the people concerned. On December 8, 2008, the construction of Hongshan Square officially began.
Miss Hongshan Square
At 10 o'clock last night, the Hongshan Square subway station, which has the largest investment, the most difficult construction and the most complex structure in Wuhan, began to be surrounded and officially started construction. Officials from the Municipal Bureau of landscape architecture and the Metro Group announced that Hongshan Plaza, which is deeply concerned by the public, will no longer accept morning exercises and will be reborn in three years' time, basically restoring its current appearance.
Hongshan Square subway station is the transfer station of Metro Line 2 phase I project and line 4 phase I project. It is located under the southwest side of Hongshan Square. Passengers can easily transfer between line 2 and line 4. The East Square will excavate and construct a pedestrian passage leading to fruit lake. The investment of the station is nearly 700 million yuan and the construction period is 27 months.
Hongshan Square Station is surrounded by Hongshan gymnasium, provincial science and education building, telecommunication building and other large public service facilities. It is a hotel intensive area and provincial office area with large passenger flow. Considering the shortage of parking spaces around, the station will be built into a huge "underground city" to effectively meet the needs of surrounding businesses, passengers and residents.
After the completion of the subway station, from Hongshan Square Station to the north through phase I of line 2, through Jianghan Road station, Hankou railway station, etc., it can reach Changqing Garden, and to the south through jiejiekou to Guanggu square; through phase I of line 4, it can reach Wuhan railway station to the East, Wuchang railway station to the west, and Hanyang through the Yangtze River in the long term. The functions of Hongshan Square, such as transportation hub, public leisure and business center, will be more prominent.
The construction basically does not affect the traffic
According to the relevant person in charge of the Metro Group, during the construction of Hongshan Square Station, most of the construction personnel worked in the square, and the passage through the underpass was basically unaffected, while the square ring road was slightly "deformed" according to the construction needs.
The traffic relief plan of Hongshan Square Station is divided into four phases
In the first phase, the whole square will be enclosed with full enclosure, mainly for the relocation of garden trees and facilities. The circular sidewalk in the original square will be cancelled, and pedestrians will take the existing sidewalk outside the ring road instead.
Phase II enclosure occupies the square ring road in front of Hongshan gymnasium in northwest corner, and a temporary road with the same width as the square ring road is opened in the northwest corner of the square to connect the north and west square ring roads. Other parts of the square are still closed, mainly for the construction of the station entrance and exit and the main body of the station.
Phase III enclosure is fully enclosed, mainly for the construction of the main body of the station on the third floor underground.
The phase IV enclosure mainly occupies the square ring road in the north and south for entrance and exit construction. The temporary diversion of the square ring road occupies part of the site in the north and south of the square. After the entrance and exit are completed, the square ring road will be restored and the original appearance of the square will be restored.
According to the geographical location, geological conditions, foundation pit characteristics and route direction of the station, the semi open and semi covered construction method is adopted from the aspects of engineering economy, construction safety and reducing the impact of construction on the surrounding environment. The comprehensive utilization of underground space of Hongshan Square Station and East Square and the restoration of ground landscape shall be carried out according to the requirements of one-time design, phased implementation, synchronous construction and restoration of square landscape.
The trees will be numbered and transplanted
Wuhan Metro Group said that after the completion of the subway station, Hongshan Square will add more humanized, environment-friendly and energy-saving elements, such as the use of high-efficiency energy-saving lamps, on the basis of restoring the original landscape. Before the demolition, the existing square decoration materials and equipment number will be preserved, and the tree number will be transplanted in other places for protection, so as to basically restore the original appearance of the square landscape.
Metro Group yesterday promised to the public through this newspaper that during the construction of Hongshan Square subway station, scientific organization and civilized operation will be carried out to minimize the impact on Residents' travel and life. Please understand the inconvenience.
Yesterday, more than 3000 people went to Hongshan Square to "say goodbye" before the square was closed last night. The scene was touching.
At about 11 am, the reporter saw in Hongshan Square that under the warm winter sun, citizens chatted, played cards, fed pigeons, read newspapers and took photos in the square. Li Biao and his wife, who live in Yangyuan community, feed pigeons with their 2-year-old granddaughter. Li Biao said that when he heard that Hongshan Square was going to be demolished, he specially took his wife and granddaughter to play again.
