Xilai Temple

Xilai temple is a Mahayana Buddhist temple in Los Angeles, California, USA. its name comes from the saying of "Buddhism Xilai". It is the American branch of FoGuangShan temple in Taiwan.  

Xilai temple was built in 1978 and started construction in 1986. The appearance of the temple adopts traditional Chinese Buddhist architecture. The foundation stone laying ceremony was held on July 3, 1986. The Buddha statue was officially opened on July 24, 1988. On November 26, the same year, the completion ceremony was held to teach the three great precepts and Wanyuan water and land law society.  

The main buildings of Xilai temple are Daxiong hall, wusheng hall, Chan hall, Wuguan hall, foguangyuan Art Museum, Huaien hall, assembly hall, FA hall, Xiangyun hall, Haihui hall, guest hall, dishuifang, Foguang book company, Foguang Xilai school, etc.

Xilai temple, covering an area of 15 acres and a building area of about 100000 square feet, was approved for construction in 1985 and was inaugurated on November 26, 1988. The name of Xilai Temple registered by the U.S. government is the international Buddhists progress society, which can be called Hsi Lai Temple. It costs 20 million US dollars and is donated by believers from all over the world, which shows the influence of Xilai temple among American Buddhists.
