However, due to historical reasons, most of the relevant historical materials of Dongming temple have been lost in the dust of the long history. Most of the wild anecdotes that can only be taught by the people are still handed down to this day. It is impossible to find detailed historical materials to support this Dongming temple with a history of more than 1200 years It is a great challenge and problem for the restoration of Dongming temple.

As we all know, China's Buddhist culture has a long history, broad and profound. In particular, the Buddhist jungle has always paid attention to the ancestral roots. If we don't know the status of Dongming temple in the history of Chinese Buddhism, and what happened in its long history, we will not find its roots.

And when a building that represents a certain culture does not have the most important root in its life, it means it does not have its soul. How can it regain its Millennium glory? How can we restore the true face of its history?

Cultural heritage

Therefore, it is urgent for us to explore the history of Dongming temple and trace its Buddhist cultural heritage. Through more than one year's unremitting efforts, I searched for a needle in a haystack of Buddhist classics, and finally found the Dongming Temple annals (three volumes), which is the version of the 13th year of Kangxi (1746) of the Qing Dynasty. The author is master Shi Zhanqian, the master of Dongming temple in the Qing Dynasty. As far as we know, this set of "Dongming Temple records" is the only existing one in China, so it is listed as the national rare book catalogue system, which is very precious. It has been 337 years since it was passed down. This is the first time that we have found such a complete set of historical materials about the temples in Yuhang District. It also fills a new page for the inheritance and excavation of historical culture in Yuhang District.

The value of historical materials

We have sent this set of chorography to the relevant historical experts in Zhejiang Province for collation. These experts have highly appraised the discovery of chorography. They think that this chorography not only fills a gap in the Buddhist culture of Yuhang and even Zhejiang, but also has a high value of literature and historical data, which is worth exploring and studying. The collation of the whole set of chorography is in progress.
