Hong Kong Exhibition Centre is a commercial and trade exhibition hall with a long history in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Exhibition Center is located in the China Resources Building, Harbour Road, north of Wan Chai. It was completed in the early 1980s and was originally named "China export commodities exhibition hall". It is operated by a subsidiary of China Resources Group, a state-owned Chinese enterprise. The floor material of Hong Kong Exhibition Center is artificial marble, bearing 1.5 tons per square meter.

Exhibition background

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) opened in November 1988. Since then, Hong Kong's trade exhibition business has been booming, which has established Hong Kong as a trade activity center in Asia and a pivotal venue for international conferences.

The exhibition center is located in the charming and famous Victoria Harbor. The title of the exhibition centre is jointly owned by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong government. The government has entrusted the Hong Kong Trade Development Council with the responsibility for the development, design and management of the Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center is the second largest convention and exhibition venue in Asia, second only to Japan. The exhibition center has two world-class hotels, one office building and one service residence.

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, owned by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, is the first large-scale facility specially built for exhibition and convention in Asia and managed by Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Management Limited. The glass curtain wall of the front hall of the city hall is up to 30 meters high, with a 180 degree wide harbour view. The new wing of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center is connected with the original convention and Exhibition Center by a 110 meter long overpass corridor.

The new wing of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre is located on a 6.5 hectare reclaimed island. There are three large-scale exhibition halls, providing an exhibition area of more than 28000 square meters, which can accommodate 2211 standard booths; there are conference halls of different sizes, covering an area of 3000 square meters, and a conference hall with an area of 4300 square meters. The hall can accommodate 4300 people for meetings and 3600 guests for banquets. It is one of the largest banquet halls in the world.

The exhibition center has five exhibition halls with a total area of 46600 square meters. The two conference halls have a total area of 6100 square meters and 52 conference rooms.

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre has served as the main venue for a number of world conferences. Apart from the ceremony of Hong Kong's return to China held here on July 1, 1997, other conferences include the world bank annual meeting in 1997, the Asia Telecom exhibition 2000, etc. The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre was also the main venue for the 2005 WTO Ministerial Conference.
