Jardine Noonday Gun is located on the Bank of Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter in Hong Kong. It belongs to a battery owned by Jardine Matheson and fires a salute at 12 noon every day. Therefore, it is called Jardine Noonday Gun. Before firing, it has to ring 8 bells. It originated from Jardine Matheson's general office building and warehouse in the East Point era, indicating the end of morning working hours. In addition to the daily firing of the afternoon artillery, the last minute of new year's Eve every year will also add artillery, called "midnight firing" to welcome the new year. This is one of the special tourist attractions in Hong Kong. At present, we only need to donate the specified amount to mindset to arrange the firing of salutes. Since 1989, more than HK $5 million has been raised.

history

Wupao is located in the east corner of that year. It is the first public auction site in Hong Kong. It was won by Jardine Matheson in 1841. This year Jardine moved its headquarters from Macao to the east corner of Hong Kong. At that time, Jardine's own gun salute and garrison in the east corner. Every time a big class arrived or left Hong Kong, it would fire guns to welcome or send them off. The Japanese occupied Hong Kong. During the Japanese occupation, the original cannon disappeared. After the restoration, the Royal Navy gave Jardine a big gun that could fire six pounds of shells to replace the old one. In 1947, Jardine resumed firing the midday cannon. In 1961, when residents complained about the loud noise of the gun, the marine police withdrew the gun and replaced it with a Hotchkiss mark 1 rapid fire gun, which is still in use today.

Before firing, the bell must ring eight times. The move originated from the era when Jardine's general office building and warehouse were located in the east corner. At that time, it was said that the morning working hours ended. After 1946, Jardine also fired guns at midnight on New Year's Eve to send off the old and welcome the new. On New Year's Eve, it was called "midnight salute", which became another tradition besides "noon salute".

Wupao is now located in a small park opposite Yidong hotel in Hong Kong.
