Historical evolution

Before Hong Kong's sovereignty was transferred back to China, it was the headquarters of the British garrison in Hong Kong, known as the prince of Wales building. At midnight on June 30, 1997, the defense handover ceremony between China and Britain was held here. At 0:00 on July 1, 1997, the PLA officially took over the building.

In May 2000, the Legislative Council of Hong Kong passed the "forbidden zone for military installations (Amendment) Order 2000", which officially changed its name to the PLA force building in Hong Kong on January 1, 2002.
