Guyuan Art Museum

Guyuan art museum is the first municipal art museum in Zhuhai, located at 388 Meihua East Road, Zhuhai. Covering an area of 10000 square meters and a building area of 8160.9 square meters, the museum integrates art museum, small museum and personal memorial hall, and performs six major functions, including collection, research, exhibition, education, service and exchange.

General situation of Guyuan Art Museum

It is named after Gu Yuan, an outstanding Chinese people's artist and art educator.

According to reports, after the completion of the Guyuan art museum with an investment of 50 million yuan, it will not only be a museum displaying calligraphy, painting and photography works in the traditional sense, but also a modern art museum. The museum will be built into a domestic top art museum in line with international art museums, and will introduce international high-level art exhibitions after completion.

At the same time, the museum, together with the Chinese printmaker Association, established a research base for ancient yuan and a training base for Chinese printmaking in the museum.

History and culture

In 1938, Gu Yuanjing, introduced by the Eighth Route Army's Guangdong Office, resolutely went to Yan'an, the holy land of revolution, to join the revolutionary team led by the Communist Party of China, and joined the Communist Party of China in November of that year. After arriving in Yan'an, Gu Yuan was selected to study in the Fine Arts Department of Lu Xun Academy of art, and his talent in painting was fully explored. Since then, Gu Yuan took the brush to the road of Anti Japanese war.

After the end of the Anti Japanese War, Gu Yuan also used wood carvings to "literacy" in rural areas and teach farmers to read. At first, Gu Yuan used the old method of "reading by looking at pictures" to cut the Malan paper on the mountain into small squares, and drew the characters, cattle, horses and other pictures on the paper, so that the farmers could learn one by one. Farmers usually leave their favorite paintings after they learn to write. Inspired by this, Gu Yuan began to print some wood carvings for farmers.

Later, he wittily said, "my first woodcut exhibition was held in the farmer's home.".

Under the wood carving knife of the ancient Yuan Dynasty, one wonderful and novel picture after another unfolds slowly. A large number of excellent works that went deep into life, such as divorce suit and marriage registration, which showed the emancipation of rural women's mind, knowing a thousand words and winter school, which showed the self emancipation of rural illiterates, children soldiers, brother's holiday, and supporting our people's own army, were created in this period.

Gu Yuan (1919-1996): born in nazhou village, Tangjiawan Town, Zhuhai City, named Diyuan, Professor of Central Academy of fine arts. Gu Yuan is a famous master of printmaking and watercolor painting in modern China. He is "a brilliant genius in Chinese art" (in Xu Beihong's words). He once served as the third president of the Central Academy of fine arts. In Yan'an, he went deep into his life and created a large number of excellent works, such as marriage registration, Liu Zhidan and Yuncao.

After the founding of the people's Republic of China, the art of the ancient Yuan Dynasty has become more and more sophisticated, and has created woodcut "Chairman Mao in Yan'an", "camel praise" and other popular masterpieces, eventually becoming a generation of masters of print and watercolor painting.

Gu Yuan's works have a strong flavor of life. The PEP middle school Chinese textbook once included a figure painting of Gu Yuan as an illustration of the text "Xianglinsao". Most students saw the image of Xianglinsao in Lu Xun's works through this painting.

Xu Beihong once praised Gu Yuan with the words of "a brilliant genius in the Chinese art world", and the famous artist Cai Ruohong inscribed the name of the museum.
