Yihao Temple

Yihao temple, located in Jinze Town, Qingpu District, Shanghai, was built in the first year of JINGDING of Song Dynasty (1260). It is said that it was the former residence of Lu Yihao, the Prime Minister of Southern Song Dynasty. It was named after the temple. It used to be called Cao'an, also known as yong'an'an. Later, the former residence of the Lu family was owned by Fei Fu of the old clan. He rebuilt the Sutra hall and ordered master Daochong to preside over it.

In the 25th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1288), it was promoted to a temple and renamed Yihao temple. The side door and two verandas of the main hall were built, which began to take shape.

In the first year of Yuanzhen (1295), dashanmen, yuanyanglou, Tianwang hall, Maitreya hall, zushi hall, Shuihuo temple, Xiangru hall, Wenchang temple, Lingyun Pavilion, Weixiao hall, Tianxiang Pavilion, beiduolin, Yuantong hall, meixuexuan, Yijing courtyard were expanded. In addition, more than 20 pavilions and courtyards were built, including Golden crucian carp pond and stone rockery. In the temple, there are 15 inscriptions written by celebrities of various dynasties, including Wu Daozi's painting of Tang Dynasty, Jingang Jing written by Zhao Mengfu of Yuan Dynasty, and the "continuous cloud" and other handwriting and stone inscriptions.

At that time, Yihao temple was large in scale, with high-rise buildings and majestic buildings. It could live in thousands of monks, so it was called an ancient temple. In 1906, it was rebuilt, but its scale was not as large as it had been.

In 1938, on the fourth day of the first month of the lunar calendar, most of the temple was destroyed by Japanese artillery fire, leaving only the Tianwang hall and dashanmen. In 1958, it was demolished and moved, and only one side of the Yuan Dynasty "Yihao Temple stele in Songjiang Prefecture" was left, including an ancient ginkgo tree, 14 pieces of "continuous cloud" stone, 16 pieces of temple column base and a few false mountain stones. Today, local Zhongxin will build a small temple in the original site, and ask Mr. Zhao Puchu to inscribe "Yihao Temple". In August 2002, the remains of the pillar foundation of the first Hall of the temple were found when digging soil beside the existing building.

After the restoration of Yihao temple in 1992, a stone tablet square was built, and the temple buildings such as Guanyin hall, Mountain Gate, hall and squatter house were rebuilt. It covers an area of 4332 square meters, with a construction area of more than 1000 square meters.

Yihao temple was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Qingpu District in 1951. In July 1992, with the approval of the people's Government of Qingpu District, it was officially opened as a place for Buddhist activities.

Historic sites in the temple
