Mei Lanfang Memorial Museum, founded in October 1987, is located at No.9 huguosi street, Xicheng District, Beijing. It is a typical Beijing Quadrangle. It was originally the stables of Prince Yi's mansion in the late Qing Dynasty, and was later renovated into a residence, covering an area of more than 700 square meters

Historical evolution

In 1949, Zhou Enlai suggested Mei Lanfang return to live in Beijing.

In 1951, Mei Lanfang moved into the No. 1 courtyard of Huguo Temple (now the gate number is changed to No. 9).

In 1968, Mei Lanfang's family and Secretary Xu Jichuan moved out of Mei Lanfang's former residence

In 1983, the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee and the State Planning Commission of China approved the building of Mei Lanfang's former residence as a memorial. On December 31 of the same year, the Ministry of culture set up a preparatory group for Mei Lanfang Memorial.

In February 1984, Zhu Muzhi, Minister of culture, presided over an office meeting to implement the preparatory work for Mei Lanfang Memorial.

In March 1984, the preparatory group of Mei Lanfang memorial hall held the first meeting in China Drama Association to carry out the work.

In April 1984, the Mei Lanfang Memorial began to receive documents and materials donated by Mei Lanfang's wife and children, which were kept by the former Chinese Academy of drama.

In May 1984, the handover and inventory of Mei Lanfang memorial hall was basically completed.

In September 1984, the preparatory group of Mei Lanfang Memorial reported the renovation plan to the Ministry of culture and Beijing Municipal Bureau of cultural relics for renovation.

In July 1985, the renovation project of Mei Lanfang's former residence was completed.

In December 1985, Mei Lanfang memorial hall was officially established, directly under the art Bureau of the Ministry of culture. At the end of December of the same year, the documents were transported to Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall in batches.

From May to July 1986, Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall worked out the exhibition plan and opened up a showroom. Representative objects, pictures and materials are selected from the collection, and relevant experts and family members are invited to implement the exhibition work together.

On July 10, 1986, Deng Xiaoping inscribed the name of Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall.

On October 27, 1986, the Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall opened to the public. It was unveiled by Xi Zhongxun, then vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress

Architectural pattern

Mei Lanfang memorial hall is a typical Beijing courtyard. The gate is opened in the southeast corner of the courtyard, and there is a shadow wall inside the gate. There are two doors on the north side of the first entrance to the hospital, two sides of which are connected with the viewing wall, and a door on the west side of the hospital can cross the hospital to the West. There is a wooden screen wall at the entrance of the second entrance, and three main rooms. There are flat top corridors on both sides of the main room, which are connected with the East and West Wing rooms. There is a moon gate on the East and west side of the flat top corridor. There are seven back rooms behind the main room. In the West Cross courtyard, two West rooms are connected into one, with a total of six rooms

Exhibition room of waiyuan

The south house of Mei Lanfang memorial hall is the main exhibition room of the memorial hall, displaying a large number of precious photos and objects. This paper introduces Mei Lanfang's artistic career with a large number of photos and objects.

Main courtyard

In the north room of the main courtyard of Mei Lanfang memorial hall, the center is the living room, the inner room is the living room, and the East and West ear rooms are the bedrooms and study.

East and West exhibition rooms

The East and West Wing rooms of Mei Lanfang memorial hall were originally the rooms and restaurants for Mei Lanfang's children. One room was set up as a special exhibition room; the other room was set up as an activity room, which was used to entertain distinguished guests and hold small Mei school art activities. The East ear room is the bedroom, the West ear room is the study, and the West ear room mainly displays Mei Lanfang's cultural achievements. The East ear room is specially set up as a video room to reproduce Mei Lanfang's artistic style.

Mei Lanfang Memorial Museum has 32421 precious collections, which are mostly donated to Mei Lanfang's relatives, including scripts, books, photos, drama lists, calligraphy and paintings, letters, objects, etc. There are also photos of Mei Lanfang himself and some old artists in casual clothes and costumes over the years, photos of Mei's group photo with famous foreign dramatists, and theater or hall performance lists from the late Qing Dynasty to modern times.

Among the collected calligraphy and paintings are works of song, yuan, Ming, Qing and contemporary calligraphers and painters such as Wu Changshuo, Chen Shizeng, Chen Baochen, Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong and Zhang Daqian. Mei Lanfang also has many paintings in his collection. In addition, there is a huge oil painting "Luoshen" painted by contemporary Indian painting Saint nandabazu for Mei Lanfang, a painting given to Mei by Japanese painter Watanabe chenmu, and a Tuan fan inscribed by Indian poet Tagore

Cultural Activity

On October 28, 1986, people in the theater held a forum to celebrate the opening of Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall in people's theater. Mei Shaowu, deputy director of Mei Lanfang memorial hall, presided over the forum. A three-day commemorative performance was held in Beijing Workers' club. Mei's plays were performed by Mei's successors, Mei's disciples and artists in the drama field
