China National Musical Instrument Museum

China National Musical Instrument Museum is located in Xinzhuang, southwest corner of Shanghai. It is the most abundant, largest and characteristic Museum of national musical instruments in China. The museum was creatively established by Shanghai No.1 national musical instrument factory in 1981 and officially opened in October 1986. The title of the museum was inscribed by the famous calligrapher Han Tianheng. More than 10 famous calligraphers and painters, such as Lu Ji, Ren Zheng, Zhao Lengyue and Qiaomu, chairman of the Chinese Music Association, wrote poems and paintings for the museum. The current curator is Wang Maozu. The exhibition area is more than 200 square meters, with four series of exhibits.

Collection

There are more than 100 varieties and more than 300 objects in the collection. The development process of musical instruments has been fully demonstrated here, from the bony whistle discovered 7000 years ago (Neolithic Age) at Hemudu site to the fish shaped pottery Cuan unearthed 4000 years ago (about Xia Dynasty) at Huoshaogou site; from the chime, harp, flute, Sheng and PAI in leigudun tomb 1 in suixian County in 433 BC (Warring States period) to the authentic Guqin of Ming and Qing Dynasties.
