Xindongren site

Xindongren site is another fossil site of ancient human discovered in Zhoukoudian, Beijing in 1967. A cave in Longgu mountain, Zhoukoudian, Beijing, was excavated before 1938, and fossils and stone tools were unearthed. In 1967, several red guards of middle school students from other places discovered the cave when they visited the ape man site in Zhoukoudian. In March 1973, they began to excavate the cave at site 4 and named it "new cave". The "new cave" is in an arc shape, with a thickness of more than 2m and a width of more than 10m. In the process of excavation, we found a left upper first molar, which was between Peking man and shandingdongman. It was an early Homo sapiens. There was a thick layer of ashes in the cave, including burnt stones, bones and seeds of celadon. There are more than 40 kinds of mammalian fossils, which are in the early Late Pleistocene from the perspective of faunal assemblage. The thermoluminescence dating of the ash layer is 135000-175000 years. It shows that the period of human activity in the new cave may be from 250000 to 100000 years ago.

The xindongren site is located in the south corner of Zhoukoudian. Discovered in 1973, it is a valuable ancient human site. A tooth, stone tools and a large number of animal fossils were found in the cave. The tooth is the left upper tooth of an adult. It is smaller than that of the Chinese ape man because it has more cooked food, but it is larger than that of the shandingdong man, and its root is also longer. According to scientific measurement, it is about 100000 years ago, between Chinese ape man and mountaintop cave man, which is called "new cave man".
