Chengguang Hall

Chengguang hall is located in Beihai Park in Beijing, in the center of Chengtai. It is the main building of Tuancheng scenic area, and was called Yitian hall in Yuan Dynasty. After reconstruction in Kangxi period, it was renamed Chengguang hall.

 

Main attractions

Chengguang hall is the main building in the Tuancheng of Beihai Park. It faces south. It has a square main hall with double eaves, yellow glazed tiles and green trim. It has Baoxia on all sides and a square platform on the south. Its architectural form is similar to the turret of the Forbidden City.

Inside the hall is a 1.5-meter-high Jade Buddha, which was paid tribute to Tibet during the Jiaqing period. It is carved from a whole piece of jade. Its whole body is white and smooth, and its cassock and crown are inlaid with gems.

In addition, Chengguang hall was the residence of the prince of the Eastern Han Dynasty.
