Yanping ancient fortress

Yanping old base is located in the south of Jimei Town, northeast of Jimei swimming pool, under the ancient banyan tree in front of Yanping building. Zheng Chenggong was an ancient fortress when he was defending Jimei. He was named "Yanping Princess" by the emperor of Ming Dynasty. In order to commemorate and display the patriotic spirit of Zheng Chenggong, a national hero, Mr. Tan Jiageng chose the site of "guoxingzhai" as the site of Jimei primary school in May 1919. In 1922, he built a three story building named yanpinglou, and engraved the word "yanpinggulei" on the huge stone beside the gate of the stone village. During the Anti Japanese War, yanpinglou was destroyed by Japanese artillery. In 1953, Mr. Tan Kah Kee rebuilt the Yanping building. According to the situation, he built three floors and 24 steps of granite on the hillside to serve as the stand of the seaside swimming pool. The swimming pool was also named "Yanping pool".

The former fortress of Yanping is the site of jimeizhai. Jimei village is located on the southeast coast of Jimei town. It was built by Zheng Chenggong, a national hero, during the period of Xiamen. It was built in 1660 A.D. in the fourteenth year of Yongli period in the Ming Dynasty. It is a tunfang village. Today, there are only stone gates and stone walls on both sides of the village. The gate is 3.08m high, 1.68m wide and 0.65M thick. There are two rocks on the northeast side behind the gate. Beside the two rocks is an old iron cannon. On one of the rocks is the inscription "Yanping old fortress", which was written during the period of the Republic of China. There is an ancient banyan tree on the northwest side of the village, with dense branches and leaves, covering the gate of the village, forming a natural landscape full of ancient color, which can be appreciated by people.

At present, there are stone gates and a rusty ancient gun in the old base.
