Nantai Temple (nantaiyan)

Nantai is on the top of the right peak of Qingyuan mountain. Because it is in the south of the middle peak, it is called "nantaiyan", also known as "Nantai Temple".

Nantai temple is one of the main scenic spots of Qingyuan mountain in Quanzhou, a national scenic spot. The scenery here is quiet and strange, with three peaks rising from the top of the rock, dangerous rocks and strange rocks falling into the clouds, such as "castles in the air", which is known as "natural pictures". It is a good place for sightseeing and pilgrimage. It is also a good place to climb the mountain and look far away, travel and relieve the heat.

The temple was built in the Tang Dynasty and has been built in all dynasties. In the Qing Dynasty, the original Nantai temple in Yanshang had a large scale, but due to historical reasons, only the main hall and monk's house remained. In 1998, according to the overall planning of the scenic spot, the municipal government decided to revitalize the "mountain and Sea Grand View" artistic conception area, and moved the Nantai temple to a wide area on the right side of the rock, leaving room for the continued construction of zhubaodian. The temple is a hard mountain style building, without the charm of ancient color and fragrance. The landscape renderings do not match the beautiful natural scenery of Qingyuan mountain.

At 8:00 p.m. on May 2, 2005, a fire broke out in nantaiyan and the main hall of Nantai temple was burned down. According to the field investigation and appraisal of the fire department, the fire was caused by lightning strike.

Although it's a pity that the religious relics have been destroyed, it's also a good thing if we can make a systematic planning on this basis, reproduce the unique landscape of the integration of the three religions in nantaiyan from a higher level, and make this pearl on the dragon vein shine in Quanzhou. From this point of view, the renovation of Nantai temple may be the will of the Buddha. Coincidentally, according to the planning and design requirements of the design office, the original main hall (now destroyed) is moved back, and the original site is used as the atrium space to design the lotus pool. In this way, on the one hand, the history of ancient buildings in Quanzhou can be extended forward, on the other hand, the tall, majestic, simple and heavy architectural style of the Tang Dynasty can be fully highlighted.
