Muxin Art Museum

Muxin art museum is a private non enterprise unit registered in Tongxiang Civil Affairs Bureau, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province. It is dedicated to commemorating and displaying Mr. Muxin (1927-2011), a painter and writer

His whole life and aesthetic heritage. This is not only an art museum collecting the past, but also a spiritual direction and academic space open to the future. The museum is located in Wuzhen, the hometown of Muxin, which provides a complete literature for the study of Muxin.

The current curator is Chen Danqing.

Creation process

One year before his death, Mr. Muxin was accompanied by Mr. Chen Xianghong of Wuzhen. He selected the site of the museum and entrusted Chen Danqing as the curator. During his deathbed, the old man looked at the design of the art museum in delirium and murmured, "wind, water, a bridge." Now, the long, narrow and concise Art Gallery stands beside the water, responding to the poet's highly generalized words.

Muxin art museum is designed and supervised by Pei i.m. disciple, New York oli firm Okamoto and Lin Bing. It is funded by Wenhua Wuzhen Co., Ltd. and constructed by Jujiang Construction Group Co., Ltd. the whole process takes four years. The design and exhibition of the museum is presided over by oli designer Fabian for a period of one and a half years. The whole building faces south. With its slender and highly modern minimalist shape, it crosses the water surface of Yuanbao Lake in Wuzhen, and is accompanied by the reflection in the water. It becomes a quiet and beautiful scenery in the west gate of Wuzhen. The Museum covers an area of 6700 square meters (72118 square feet), and its appearance is in line with Mr. Muxin's simple aesthetics. Mr. Muxin once highly summarized and foresaw the scenery of today's built Art Museum and its surrounding hometown with "wind, water, a bridge". The metaphor of "bridge" has made an excellent portrayal of Muxin's artistic practice of integrating Eastern and Western culture and aesthetics all his life.

For the first time, this personal art museum will fully display Mr. Muxin's paintings and literary works. The museum has five permanent galleries, which are composed of a painting gallery, a literature Gallery, a prison manuscript gallery and a video studio. The two special exhibition halls will launch the annual special exhibition of world artists, which will have an important influence on Muxin. Muxin Art Museum, with its multiple dramas and incompatibility, will lead a kind of future and benign humanistic care, which is a cultural cause worth looking forward to.

Lobby

Zhejiang has a long cultural context. Among the legends related to Wuzhen, the story of the prince of Liang Dynasty, which compiled Zhaoming Wenxuan, is the most remote. The stone tablet of "the reading place of Prince Liang Zhaoming and Shen Shangshu" was built in the Ming Dynasty. At the beginning of the 20th century, Mr. Mao Dun came out of Wuzhen. At the beginning of the new century, Mr. Mu Xin, a painter and poet, returned to his hometown. More than 70 years ago, Mao Dun's book house was the "happy place" in Muxin's childhood.

Paintings

Muxin exhibition hall 1: due to the previous political movements, all of Muxin's early paintings have been lost, and the paintings that we can display are in his middle and old age. Exhibition hall 1 includes his calligraphy, color and ink portraits, medium-sized landscape paintings at the end of the cultural revolution, as well as his body drawing and lithography abstract series at the beginning of his stay in the United States. There are five display cabinets on the East and west wall table, which contain Muxin's painting tools, brushes, inkstones and related manuscripts. Among them are Muxin's description of Van Gogh's painting exhibition and the original poems he will go to his own painting exhibition, the manuscript of postwar Carnival recalling his youth's art career, and Cezanne's paintings in Muxin's collection.

Muxin exhibition hall 2: with large desk and super long display cabinet, exhibition hall 2 focuses on 32 miniature color ink landscape paintings painted by Muxin from 72 to 83 years old, which are his mature and outstanding works in his later years. French designer Fabian, who is in charge of interior design, put eight of them in a special iron cabinet with a flat table, which is convenient for the audience to overlook and read the pictures. Muxin's paintings have never been displayed in mainland China before. Therefore, besides Muxin of poets and writers, the audience will know Muxin as a painter in the museum. Muxin himself has never seen his paintings displayed in such a delicate way.

Muxin exhibition hall 3: Exhibition Hall 3 displays Muxin's prison manuscript with four iron enclosed exhibition stands. In the early 1970s, Muxin was imprisoned alone several times in an air raid shelter with stagnant water. On the ground of writing examination, he got pen and paper and continued to devote himself to literary creation. He wrote 66 prison manuscripts, 132 pages and 650000 words. He sewed the manuscript into cotton padded trousers and later took it out of the cell. In 2001, all the manuscripts were on display at the Yale University Museum of art and toured at the Chicago Museum of art, the Hawaii Museum of art and the Asian Society of New York. Due to the fragility of the paper and the erosion of time, the museum displays a part of the manuscripts in prison, and will change different pages regularly in the future.

Muxin exhibition hall 4: due to the need of exhibition, exhibition hall 4 was temporarily opened as the special exhibition hall of Nietzsche and Muxin. As early as the late Qing Dynasty, Nietzsche's translations were discussed by Wang Guowei, Liang Qichao and the generals of the May 4th New Culture Movement. Muxin was born eight years after the May 4th movement. For more than half a century, his spiritual orientation and independence were deeply influenced by Nietzsche. With the help of Mr. Chen Ping, cultural counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Germany, the German classical foundation, Weimar Goethe and Schiller archives, the Duchess of Anna Amariya library and Nietzsche literature center have jointly lent five Nietzsche manuscripts, 20 first edition works of Nietzsche in the 19th century, eight Nietzsche portraits and one Nietzsche mask, which is the first time for Nietzsche's literature and cultural relics to come to Asia Home show.

In order to cooperate with Nietzsche literature exhibition, President Smith of Weimar Nietzsche college planned and directed a situational recitation program, which will perform two performances on the opening night and the next day. German actor plays Nietzsche, Chinese famous transliteration actor Ding Jianhua plays Salome, recites the dialogue between Nietzsche and Salome, and German pianist Xie Yashuang plays the piano works composed by Nietzsche.

Muxin exhibition hall 5: Exhibition Hall 5 is a literature hall. During his lifetime, Mu Xin published more than 30 kinds of essays, novels, essays, haiku and poetry collections on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, with more than one million words. He left behind more than 40 volumes of manuscripts and countless scattered pages. There are 15 tabletops and 20 display cabinets in the museum, displaying books of the Republic of China Edition read by Mu Xin in his early years, surviving manuscripts written in private before the cultural revolution, and some manuscripts accumulated after traveling in the United States and returning home. Among them, the most precious are music scores, drama manuscripts of Mu Xin's early years, and "speech and explanation" and complaint letters in the middle and late period of the cultural revolution. Among the manuscripts in his later years, the book of songs, my lust, Balong, pseudo Solomon and literary memoirs are the most complete. In addition, Muxin's unfinished draft "air raid shelter No. 3" during his stay in the United States describes his experience of being imprisoned in the 1970s.

Lin Fengmian and Muxin

Ten of Lin Fengmian's works and four of Mu Xin's works are provided by Shanghai Chinese Academy of painting. They are displayed together to review the friendship between teachers and students 60 years ago.

Nietzsche and Muxin

In cooperation with Nietzsche foundation, Nietzsche archives center in naumburg, Weimar classical foundation, Goethe Schiller archives, Nietzsche academy and Duchess of Anna Amariya Library in Germany, Nietzsche has provided four manuscripts, 21 original works in the 19th century, eight portraits of Nietzsche, and one death mask to review Nietzsche's contribution to the world The inner influence of Muxin's life. Nietzsche's translation began in the late Qing Dynasty. It is the first time that Nietzsche's works have been exhibited in China for more than 100 years. As a sign of German cooperation, President Ludwig Schmidt greppay of Nietzsche college and actor Mattias booth came to Wuzhen to recite the dialogue between Nietzsche and Salome with the famous Chinese dubbing actor Ding Jianhua, and the pianist Xie Yashuang from Germany played the music created by Nietzsche.

Memorial Hall of former residence

In 1999, Wuzhen ushered in rebirth, and the protection and development of the ancient town started in an all-round way. Mr. Chen Xianghong, who was the leader of the town at that time and also the director of the ancient town protection and Tourism Development Management Committee, came to know Mr. Muxin and his achievements when he read this essay by chance. He was determined to ask the old man to return home, and the company immediately bought the land and real estate of Sunjia garden for substantial repair. In 2000, after many twists and turns, I finally got in touch with Mr. Mu Xin. Feeling the sincerity and hospitality of his hometown, the old man decided to come back and renamed the renovated ancestral house "Wanqing Xiaozhu". Since 2001, invested by Wuzhen tourism development company, it took five years to complete the Wanqing building.

Ladder Library

Okamoto and Lin Bing of oli design firm have designed a ladder library connecting the first floor and the second floor for the north end of Muxin Art Museum. Visitors can rest and sit on the wooden ladder and look out at the backyard of the museum. On the east wall of the library, there are more than 100 bookshelves with 62 portraits of the world's literary giants, and the ancient and modern Chinese and foreign literary treasures mentioned in Muxin's literary memoirs.

Imaging Hall

The image Hall of the art museum is composed of two parts: the preface hall of the art museum will play nine videos introducing Mr. Muxin's life; the multi-function hall of the art museum will play 4K slide images of Mr. Muxin's paintings.
