. Dongshi is located at the east end of Xuefeng mountain system, and in the southwest, it nestles up with Daxiongshan National Forest Park in Xinhua. A small river, Maxi River, which originates from Daxiongshan, passes through it and reaches Zijiang River directly. There is a "sanmendong" in the maxi River, whose depth is unpredictable. There is a prosperous market near the "sanmendong", hence the name of Dongshi. It was a big town in history. It was merged into Jiangnan Town when the towns were merged a few years ago. Now it is a jurisdiction of the town. Dongshi old street used to be the only way from "Qianxiang" to "Houxiang" and from Anhua to Xinhua, Shaoyang and Yungui. In particular, it used to be the only way for people from many villages and towns in Xinhua County to come to Anhua, and it was an important transfer station of the ancient tea horse road. The tea horses of Xinhua enter Dongshi Township through three mountain roads, and Dongshi old street is the place where the three roads are unified.

Because of the rapids and shoals in the area where Maxi river flows through Dongshi, Dongshi has naturally become the terminal and transfer point of waterway transportation for thousands of years, and also the starting point of caravan transportation. There are more than 200 bamboo rafts for transporting goods. The old people say: during the period of the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, Dongshi old street was very prosperous. The bamboo rafts for transporting goods stretched for several miles, the horse Gang lined up, the camel bells clanged, the visitors were like weaving, and the fabric flowed smoothly. It was a picture of Meishan Qingming River.
