--To cross Baima Snow Mountain Nature Reserve along the Yunnan Tibet line of national highway 214, we need to cross two passes, namely, the shuolaka pass at an altitude of 4000 meters and the Baima pass at an altitude of 4292 meters.
--After passing Baima Xueshan pass, the altitude here reaches 4292m, which is the highest highway section in Yunnan Province at present, and also the boundary between Deqin County and Shangri La County.
Baima Xueshan pass
Baima Snow Mountain is located in Deqin County, Yunnan Province, covering an area of 190144 hectares. It was established with the approval of Yunnan Provincial People's Government in 1983 and promoted to national level in 1988. Its main protected objects are alpine coniferous forest, natural landscape of mountain vegetation vertical zone and Yunnan snub nosed monkey.
Development history
The towering Yunling mountain belongs to Hengduan Mountain range, with continuous peaks and white snow. Overlooking the main peak of snow all year round, it looks like a galloping white horse, so it is named "White Horse Snow Mountain". In order to protect the natural landscape of the typical mountain vertical zone of Hengduan Mountain and maintain the water and soil in the upper reaches of Jinsha River, a nature reserve of 190000 hectares was set up on the slopes of Baima Snow Mountain and Renzhi snow mountain in Deqin County of Yunnan Province in 1983, which has been expanded to 270000 hectares. There are 20 main peaks with an altitude of more than 5000 meters, and the highest peak, Baima Snow Mountain, is 5430 meters.
geographical position
Yunnan Tibet highway obliquely passes through Baima Xueshan pass. The altitude here reaches 4292m, which is the highest highway segment in Yunnan Province. This location is also the boundary of Deqin County and Shangri La County in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province.
natural resources
This area is located in the middle of Hengduan Mountains. The towering Yunling mountains run through the whole area from north to south. There are 20 peaks more than 5000 meters. The main peak is Baima Snow Mountain, which is 5430 meters above sea level and has a relative elevation difference of more than 3000 meters. The vertical distribution of vegetation in the area is obvious. Within the horizontal distance of less than 40 km, there are 7-16 plant distribution zones, which are equivalent to the plant distribution zones thousands of kilometers from south to North in China. There are more than ten kinds of national key protected plants in this area, such as stellate leaf grass, Lancang yellow fir, and more than 30 kinds of national key protected animals, such as Yunnan snub nosed monkey, clouded leopard, and red panda. It is known as the "Kingdom of Alpine animals and plants in cold temperate zone" and has high scientific value.
