Jingsheng Confucian Temple

Jingsheng Confucian temple, located in Jingsheng Town, Lingshi County, Shanxi Province, was built in the second year of Zhiyuan (1336) of Huizong reign of the Yuan Dynasty and started in the third year of Zhishun reign (1332). It took four years to complete in the second year of Zhiyuan (1336). It was repaired many times during the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Republic of China. The existing building is a Yuanming building.

The temple is located in the north facing south, with two courtyard layout. The halberd gate and Dacheng hall are extant on the central axis, and Kuixing building and auxiliary hall are built on the two sides, covering an area of 2237 square meters. Zhaobi in front of the temple was built in Yuan Dynasty. Dacheng hall is built on a 0.95-meter-high brick platform, with three rooms in width, five rafters in depth, six purlins in front of the corridor structure, three steps of Dougong on the external eaves, and a single eaves hanging on the mountain with a gray tile roof

The Confucian temple has two entrances and three courtyards. On the central axis are Yingbi (Wanren palace wall), Lingxing gate, Dacheng gate, Dacheng hall, bedroom hall and Zunjing Pavilion. The Confucian temple is mainly built in the yuan and Ming Dynasties, and the liyuyuelongmen Yingbi at the gate is one of the relics of the Yuan Dynasty. The Lingxing gate is a stone archway with four pillars and three rooms. The wood like stone bucket arches of Mingci building are five steps high and two steps high. The horseback sparrow is carved with openwork, which is extremely exquisite. Between the Lingxing gate and Dacheng gate are panchi and Panchiao. Dacheng hall, the main hall, has a single eaves hanging on the top of the mountain, three rooms in width, three rooms in depth and three rooms out of the front porch. There are three steps in the outer eaves. The main hall has been renovated a lot, and the front porch has also been equipped with a flat roof, but the use of hanging on the top of the mountain is quite intriguing. In addition, the Danbi stone on the base of the platform should also be a relic of the Yuan Dynasty. There are five Wuliang halls in the north of Dacheng hall, three in the middle of which are dedicated to the official family of Qi, the lady of the Supreme Master; Chongsheng Temple in the East, for Confucius' five ancestors (Emperor Yongzheng's King), and Qisheng temple in the west, for Confucius' parents. After Wuliang hall is Zunjing Pavilion. In traditional Chinese residential buildings, in order to protect the privacy of the residential area, a decorative wall will be built outside the gate, or between the gate and the main house, like a screen. This wall is called "shadow wall". As a part of the building, the screen wall of Shanxi Merchants' quadrangle has unique characteristics, rich and colorful decoration and unique aesthetic value. In front of the Confucian temple in Jingsheng Village, Lingshi County, Shanxi Province, the Wu wall has a double-sided hollow stone carving of "carp leaping over the dragon's gate" in the center. It is 7 meters high and more than 10 meters wide. The dragon's gate is majestic, with waves rolling and two dragons dancing and leaping. Its head and tail are visible, and its scales and claws are hidden in the clouds. One of the dragons opens its mouth and pours directly into the center of the dragon's gate. There is a fish rushing to the dragon's gate, the head is Jackie Chan, the tail is still a fish, waiting for the final jump to Jackie Chan. There are seven other carp in the water.
