On October 25, 1945, the 11th brigade of the new first army of the Kuomintang army in Anbian held high the banner of anti civil war, anti dictatorship, peace and democracy. Acting brigade commander Cao Youshen and Niu Huadong, leader of the underground Party of the Communist Party of China, led more than 2000 officers and soldiers to hold an armed uprising in Anbian. This uprising shocked the northwest and affected the whole country. It was the first large-scale uprising of the Kuomintang army after the victory of the Anti Japanese war. It played a vanguard role in opposing civil war and striving for peaceful and democratic nation building. Chairman Mao Zedong called it the "locomotive" of the Kuomintang army uprising.
