The Wetland Park in a city covers an area of about 157 hectares, 1.9 kilometers long from east to west, 1.2 kilometers wide from north to south, and 90 hectares of water area. It is divided into closed protection zone, transitional buffer zone and open experience zone.

Cuihu National Urban Wetland Park

Cuihu National Urban Wetland Park is located in the north of Shangzhuang reservoir, Shangzhuang Town, Haidian District, Beijing. It is the second batch of national urban wetland parks approved by the State Council. It is located in the core area of "northern green core" of ecological Haidian, and close to Mingfu garden of Nalanxingde, a famous poet of Qing Dynasty. It covers an area of 157.16 hectares, 1.9 kilometers long from east to west, 1.2 kilometers wide from north to south, and 90 hectares of water area It is divided into closed protection zone, transition buffer zone and open experience zone. The open experience area covers an area of 45 hectares. It has designed tourist service center, cultural corridor, aquatic plant viewing area, Linyuan fish watching area, two climbing animal viewing area, Butterfly Valley, frog accompaniment, bird watching tower, raoshui Fangjing, youth forest, Guilu Island, sunset mountain, bird watching by fence, gathering marsh and coagulating green, etc. according to local conditions.

Location context

Cuihu National Urban Wetland Park is located in the north of Shangzhuang reservoir, Shangzhuang Town, Haidian District, Beijing, next to Mingfu garden of Nalanxingde, a famous poet of Qing Dynasty. The wetland is more than 30 kilometers away from the center of Beijing, and is located in the core area of Haidian District, the key area of northern green heart.

At present, the first phase of Cuihu Wetland project has been completed. Through the excavation of ecological canal around the lake, 1500 mu of low-lying land on the north side of Shangzhuang reservoir is enclosed into an ecological park with wetland ecological characteristics, and more than 400 species of wetland animals and plants are introduced to form a wetland landscape.

natural resources

There are 439 native and planted wetland higher plants in the park, belonging to 313 genera of 96 families, and 16 new plants. 220 species of birds in 49 families of 17 orders were observed in the park, and 12 new species were observed and banding. Among them, there are 87 species of wetland birds, accounting for 40% of the total birds in the park, accounting for 31.7% and 66.2% of the national and Beijing wetland birds respectively.

The park has a beautiful environment, clear lake water and rich aquatic plants. It has the charm of Jiangnan. It has become the preferred place for migratory birds to spend winter in Beijing or transfer to the south. Experts predict that by the summer of 2005, the number of birds and waterfowl in Cuihu Wetland Park will reach more than 50 species and more than 3000.

Main attractions

In addition to collecting rainwater, wetlands can also purify the domestic sewage discharged from upstream villages. There are lotus pond, reed pond, wild wetland plant exhibition area, waterfowl protection area, wetland ecological agriculture park, langyuan ecological water area, etc.

Major honors

In 2012, the park was awarded as Beijing Youth Students' extracurricular activity base; in 2013, it was awarded as Beijing's first batch of landscaping popular science education base; in 2015, it became a social classroom resource unit for primary and secondary school students in Beijing, and was rated as the advanced group of extracurricular education in Haidian District. In 2017, it became the environmental education base of Beijing and the popular science education activity base of Shangzhuang town.

Tourism information

Take bus No.303, No.575, No.512 to Shangzhuang health center, walk west along Cuihu North Road for 4.2km to the main entrance of the park, take bus no.330 or 346 to daoxianghu, go ahead to Cuihu North Road, turn right for 1.9km.

Around Cuihu lake, a series of leisure and entertainment projects such as barbecue, fishing and farmhouse entertainment have been formed for people to visit on weekends and holidays. Nalan garden beside Cuihu lake is a cultural leisure place integrating Nalan Xingde memorial hall, accommodation, catering and entertainment, the son of Nalan Mingzhu, the first poet of Qing Dynasty.
