Shazhou Park was expanded on the basis of the former martyr cemetery in Shazhou county (now Zhangjiagang City) in July 1977. It was moved out of the martyr cemetery in 1991 and rebuilt according to the architectural style of Suzhou garden.

Shazhou park is located at the junction of Jiyang road and Gongyuan road in the center of Zhangjiagang City, with Dongheng River in the north. It covers an area of 50100 square meters, including 40000 square meters of green space. It is an antique garden in the south of the Yangtze River with exquisite conception, unique layout and rich historical and cultural heritage.

In 2001, the park was rebuilt and opened to the public on October 1, 2001 without admission.

Historical evolution

In July 1977, Shazhou Park was formed on the basis of the former Shazhou county (now Zhangjiagang City) martyrs cemetery.

In 1991, the martyrs' cemetery was moved out and rebuilt on the site according to the architectural style of Suzhou gardens.

Main landscape

The layout of Shazhou park is reasonable. There are memorial archways, "eight sceneries of Cangjiang River" relief, banded artificial river, Fenghua garden, two rockeries made of Huangshi and stone boat. The stone boat cabin is engraved with the four gold characters "Jianzhen Eastern Airlines", and the boat is built with a bronze statue of master Jianzhen, a famous monk of Tang Dynasty. There is a new miniature landscape "Jiuzhaigou", which is zigzagged through it. The water is gurgling all the year round and the scenery is pleasant. What is particularly valuable is that the famous ancient trees in laoyuan forest area are preserved, and there are more than 100 plant varieties, including Ginkgo biloba, Eucommia ulmoides, chongyangmu, wuzhensong, Baipi pine, jinqiansong, guzelkova, etc. there is a 200 meter antique zigzag corridor to the east of the park gate.
