Huiyuan pawnshop

--Located in Changfeng street, between Yingjia bridge and Nanhua bridge, the five bay facade, upstairs and downstairs, and the high counter (1.8 meters high) are magnificent.

--In ancient times, Wuzhen was the commercial center of the surrounding area, and the pawnbroking industry was developed. At most, there were 13 pawnbrokers.

--In 1931, only Huiyuan Dang was still supporting. During the period of Japanese invasion, Huiyuan Dang also declared its business closed. Since Huiyuan was closed, the history of Wuzhen pawnshop has come to an end.

Huiyuan pawnshop

Huiyuan pawnshop is located between yingjiaqiao and Nanhua bridge. It has a five bay front, a 1.8-meter-high counter upstairs and downstairs, which is very imposing. According to the records of Wuqing Town, there were 13 pawnshops in Wuzhen, and there were seven before the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. In 1931, Huiyuan was the only one that was still supported. Before the invasion of the Japanese invaders, Dianwu was unable to enter, and soon closed down. Since Huiyuan was closed, the history of Wuzhen pawnshop has come to an end. Today, Huiyuan is still in its old place.

The pawnshop is surrounded by high walls, and the foot of the outer wall is built with a head high stone, so that thieves can't cross the wall or dig holes, and the watchtower above the roof is watched day and night. The gate is made of thick gingko wood which is not easy to catch fire. It is covered with iron sheet and has solid bolt and floor bolt inside. It is difficult for outsiders to break in. When you enter the Imperial Hall, you can show loyalty and righteousness as the foundation, as well as the desire to expel evil. Toudai is a shop hall, which is a trading place for collecting and exchanging goods. In addition to Huiyuan, there are high counters and wooden fences. When the owner handed in the clothes, he was allowed to ask for the price from the local court. Houdai is a storehouse. In order to prevent fire, Dai and Dai's houses are not connected. In the courtyard, there are many seven stone jars full of water, which are called "Taiping jars".

Huiyuan was founded by Xu huanzao (Mingxiang), the ninth grandson of Xudong in the reign of Daoguang. Xu Dong has a lot of money and is good at doing good deeds. From the following two aspects, he does not only pawn to make money. First, there is no high counter and wooden fence, so both sides can discuss the price equally. Second, in December of each year (from the first day of the first lunar month to the end of the second lunar month), there is no interest for those who are less than 1000 Wen. Moreover, the value of the code is relatively wide, and even Shijiu can be included in the code. This is entirely to take care of the poor. So no one knows about Xudong in Wuzhen.
