Huilong mountain is a national AAA scenic spot and one of the eight ancient sceneries in Zixing. It is located in Tuanjie Yao Township, northeast of Zixing City, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, with an altitude of 1480 meters and a total area of 16 square kilometers. It is a combination of more than 2000 years of religious history and culture as well as the simple Yao customs and culture. It is majestic, beautiful and magical. The Huilong ancient temple on the top of the mountain is called the ancient Nanyue, which was once the birthplace of Nanyue religious culture. Among them, Huilong wangri is one of the eight ancient sceneries in Zixing.

Main attractions

The scenic spots of Huilong wangri, hundred year old azalea, thousand year old road, deep valley, mysterious ancient temple, high mountain fairyland, sea of clouds, primitive vegetation, wild tea forest and simple and complete customs of Yao people are the scenic spots attracting mountaineering sightseeing for thousands of years. The traffic is convenient. It is only one hour away from Beijing Zhuhai Expressway and half an hour away from Dongjiang Lake scenic spot.

On the west side of the top of Huilong mountain, I was surprised to see that a huge "pyramid" was hazy and merged with the mountains in the distance, just like a 200 meter long and 100 meter high hill. After careful observation, we found that it was just an illusory shadow. After about 10 minutes, the huge "pyramid" slowly disappeared with the rising of the sun. A layman disciple of huilongxian temple said that from September to October every year, as long as the weather is fine, you can see this spectacle on Huilongshan.

According to meteorological experts, mirages usually occur in coastal and desert areas. Mirages can be called a spectacle when they appear on the high mountains with an altitude of more than 1000 meters in Zixing city.

Historical legend

It is said that Emperor Yan built a temple on a auspicious day when he returned to Longshan to worship heaven. By the Eastern Han Dynasty, it had integrated Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. The main god "Nanyue emperor" in the temple is the incarnation of Emperor Yan. In 751 ad, wuliangshou Buddha also returned to the Dragon Temple in the morning and began his path of becoming a Buddha. It is said that praying in ancient temples is very effective.

So why is Huilong mountain called ancient Nanyue?

There are three versions: the first one comes from the abbot. In the early Tang Dynasty, because of the bad natural conditions, the abbot assigned two-thirds of the monks and Taoists to Hengshan to build another temple. At the beginning of the establishment of Nanyue temple, most of the monks and Taoists came from Huilong mountain. It is said that the abbots and abbots of various temples in Nanyue had been to this emperor. It is verified that Huilong has an temple with a history of about 1700 years, while Nanyue has a history of more than 1600 years. This is true in time.

The second comes from folklore. According to Zixing county annals, "it is said that the great emperor of Nanyue came here in May and June for summer vacation.". Moreover, the source of Hengshan is Huilongshan.

The third is the textual research of Li Yuanlu, a Gongsheng in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty. He put forward his own point of view in his article youzashan Ji in the county annals. He thinks that the reason why he said "ancient" is "not the ancient below Yu of Tang Dynasty", "but the ancient above five emperors". In ancient times, Emperor Yan of Shenlong family tasted all kinds of herbs and passed on farming. He once lived in Huilong mountain. The Xianan temple on Huilong mountain is the place for later generations to worship Emperor Yan and burn incense.

Because there is no obvious material evidence, it is impossible to get the true origin of these three statements. But it is clear that huilongxian temple has a long history.

Huilongxian Temple

According to Zixing county annals, Huilongshan "has a trail of riding dragons and crossing cranes in ancient times". It is said that "the great emperor of Nanyue came here for summer vacation in May and June", so pilgrims "ran and cheered in an endless stream". Since the Tang Dynasty, Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism have been integrated, so it is called huilongxian temple.

So step into huilongxian (the plaque of the main gate) and come to the main hall. In the middle of the hall is the statue of Guan Gong, who lived in the spring and Autumn period. Next to it are many small Bodhisattvas, including Guanyin Bodhisattva and Sakyamuni.
