Murray House

Stanley market is full of small shops selling a wide range of goods, including leather, silk, wool and cotton clothing, Chinese handicrafts, watches and souvenirs. Since the first boutique store opened in 1973, Stanley market has gradually developed into an important tourist spot.

Murray house is one of the largest scale historic reconstruction projects. Originally located in Queensway Garden Road (the current site of Bank of China Building), it is the only ancient European Victorian building in Hong Kong. It was named after the British Minister Sir Murray. Meili building is three stories high and is mainly made of giant granite. The architectural style combines the characteristics of eastern and Western architecture. It not only imitates the Greek retro style round stone columns, but also adopts the Chinese style roof with sloping roof.

After the completion of Meili building, it witnessed the rapid development of Hong Kong's economy after the World War II. It is a first-class historical building. The Meili building was demolished in 1982, rebuilt at the waterfront of Stanley in 1998, and reopened in 1999. It has become an important symbol of Stanley and a new page in the protection of historical relics in Hong Kong.
