Chaling ancient city wall

Chaling ancient city wall was first built in 1232, the fifth year of shaoding in the Southern Song Dynasty. The total site of the wall is 3353 meters. Among them, the existing 600 meters old city wall is the only well preserved stone wall of Song Dynasty in Hunan Province. In recent years, Chaling County has strengthened the protection and development of the ancient city wall, repaired 484 meters of the ancient city wall, built the Yingxiang gate tower, the ancient city turret and other scenic spots. In 2013, the ancient city wall of the Southern Song Dynasty was successfully promoted to the national key cultural relics protection unit.

Historical evolution

On July 12, 2013, Chaling County held the unveiling ceremony of Chaling ancient city wall, a national key cultural relic protection unit.

Construction scale

The total site of the city wall is 3353 meters. Among them, the existing 600 meters old city wall is the only well preserved stone wall of Song Dynasty in Hunan Province.

There are four sections of the city wall in the ancient city, about 1536 meters long, two gates, one horse road, about 700 meters of the Southern Song Dynasty flood dike, and one Tiexi town dike.

There are more than 150 ancient residences and courtyards in the ancient city wall, as well as the monuments in the Southern Song Dynasty, yamen, Confucious'temple, Millennium iron rhinoceros, pagoda, Lagerstroemia, greet door, turret, Zhuang Yuan bridge, Qingyun Guan, lotus hut and Town God's Temple.

Cultural relics protection

Chaling County has issued the "protection plan of Chaling ancient city wall" and formulated the "first phase repair plan of ancient city wall" to repair the ancient city wall. After the completion of the project, the Southern Song ancient city wall of Chaling will increase by 755 meters, and the city wall visited by tourists will increase from 484 meters to 1239 meters. The project will also repair the Yingxun gate and Dacheng gate of the ancient city wall

In 2001, the 484 meter long wall from ziyamen to tiexiting was restored;

In 2006, the Yingxiang gate tower and corner tower on the ancient city wall were repaired;

In 2012, the ancient city wall yingxiangmen Tower Road was repaired
