Guangzhou Institute of foreign languages
In March 1964, the Central South Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and the Guangdong provincial government decided to set up a foreign language college in Guangzhou to meet the needs of increasingly frequent international exchanges for foreign language talents. In July, the Preparatory Committee of Guangzhou Institute of foreign languages was established.
On July 25, 1965, Guangzhou Institute of foreign languages was officially established. The school is located at the former site of Guangdong Petroleum School in Shougouling, northeast suburb of Guangzhou. In September, the first 317 students officially started school with 2 departments and 4 majors.
In January 1966, Guangzhou Institute of foreign languages was directly under the management of the Ministry of higher education of the Central People's government. In the summer of 1966, the "Cultural Revolution" broke out, and the college stopped recruiting students.
In October 1969, Guangzhou Institute of foreign languages was transferred to Guangdong Province for management.
In October 1970, the Revolutionary Committee of Guangdong province implemented the "transfer, merger, relocation and reform" of Guangdong universities. The Foreign Languages Department of Sun Yat sen University, the foreign languages department and foreign trade department of Jinan University, and Guangzhou foreign languages school were merged into Guangzhou Foreign Languages College and renamed "Guangdong foreign Languages College". The school was moved to the former site of Zhongnan Forestry College in huangpodong, northern suburb of Guangzhou. In the winter of 1970, the school resumed enrollment.
In the spring of 1971, 508 "junior college students" entered the school for five years. There are 4 departments and 9 majors.
From 1972 to 1976, a total of 1258 workers, peasants and soldiers were recruited from five sessions throughout the country.
In November 1977, the name of Guangzhou Institute of foreign languages was officially restored to the leadership of the Ministry of education.
In 1978, we began to recruit master degree students in foreign linguistics and applied linguistics. He founded the academic journal modern foreign languages.
In January 1980, the Ministry of education set up the training department for overseas students in Guangzhou Institute of foreign languages.
From 1981 to 1982, foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, English language and literature, French language and literature were awarded master's degree.
In 1983, four departments were changed into three departments and changed their names; night University of foreign languages was founded to recruit three-year junior college students.
In 1984, the Institute of linguistics and applied linguistics was established.
In 1986, German language and literature, Russian language and literature and Indonesian language and literature were awarded master's degree; foreign linguistics and applied linguistics were awarded doctor's degree.
In 1987, the Ministry of Chinese as a foreign language was established to recruit foreign students.
In 1988, linguistics and applied linguistics were identified as one of the five key foreign language disciplines by the National Education Commission. The Institute of foreign culture was established (renamed the Institute of International Studies in 1992).
In 1989, the Department of foreign economic relations and trade (renamed the Department of international trade in 1991) and the Department of foreign secretary were established. The project of "national college entrance examination standardization reform experiment" presided over by Professor GUI Shichun and Professor Li Xiaoju passed the appraisal of the State Education Commission, and was promoted to the whole country after two years of trial implementation in Guangdong (won the first prize of national education research achievement in 1990).
In 1992, the board of directors of Guangzhou Institute of foreign languages was established.
In July 1993, the reform of the management system of personnel, distribution, housing, medical and pension funds was carried out.
In the autumn of 1994, the system of scholarship and loan was carried out, the specialty structure and curriculum were adjusted, the teaching management reform of "credit system + grade point system" was implemented, and the graduate employment system of "meeting supply and demand" was implemented.
In January 1995, Guangzhou Institute of foreign languages was put under the management of Guangdong Province.
Guangzhou Institute of foreign trade
In December 1980, Guangzhou Institute of foreign trade was officially established in Dalang, northern suburb of Guangzhou, with one department, two departments and two teaching and research offices. In 1979, with the approval of the Ministry of foreign trade, the preparatory work of Guangzhou Institute of foreign trade began.
In 1981, the college officially enrolled 80 new students from Central South, southwest and Tibet provinces.
In 1984, the Department of foreign trade enterprise management was established.
In 1985, the president responsibility system was implemented on a pilot basis. Set up night university to recruit 2-year junior college students.
In 1990, the institutions of colleges and departments were adjusted to set up three departments and two departments.
In 1991, the Ministry of adult education was established. Gu Yongjiang, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of foreign trade and economic cooperation, is the chairman of the board of directors.
From September 1, 1994, it was officially put under the management of Guangdong Province.
In 1995, there were three departments, five undergraduate majors, one undergraduate major direction and two specialized majors.
Development
In mid January 1995, the executive meeting of Guangdong Provincial People's government decided to merge Guangzhou Institute of foreign languages and Guangzhou Institute of foreign trade to form Guangdong University of foreign studies. On June 6, Guangdong University of foreign studies was officially established. In August, it enrolled 676 undergraduates and 164 junior college students in the name of the new university for the first time. In October, the first Council, degree committee, academic committee and professional and technical post evaluation committee of the new university were successively established. On November 14, the board of directors of Guangdong University of foreign studies was established.
In January 1996, the financial work of the University headquarters and Dalang campus was integrated. In the first half of the year, the relevant rules and regulations of the two chambers were comprehensively revised and integrated. During the summer vacation, the Department of foreign trade and enterprise management moved from Dalang campus to its headquarters, and the affiliated foreign language school moved from its headquarters to Dalang campus.
In January 1997, seven colleges and one department were established by integrating resources.
In November 1998, the reform of organization and personnel system for cadres was carried out, and it was completed in June 1999. In recognition of a group of teachers who have been teaching for 40 years.
In June 1999, the open college was established.
In June 2000, the school of international law was established. In November, foreign linguistics and applied linguistics were selected as one of the 100 key research bases of Humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of education. In the second half of this year, the non universal language teaching and Research Center has become a national pilot base for non universal language undergraduate talent training.
In 2001, we carried out five reforms of school management system, including the adjustment of teaching and scientific research structure, the reform of non academic education management system, the reform of personnel system, the reform of school distribution system, and the reform of logistics socialization. The first party congress of the new university was held and the 11th Five Year Plan for the development of education was formulated. Put forward the guiding ideology of "three insistences, two adaptations" and strive to carry out five reforms. The Institute of continuing education was set up to work together with the open college.
In 2002, we carried out five reforms and made every effort to enter Guangzhou University Town to build a new campus.
In January 2003, at the Fogang conference, the school running concept, ideas, methods and characteristics were systematically put forward. In February, the Guangdong provincial government officially approved Guangdong University of foreign studies as a high-quality teaching resource to enter the South Campus of Guangzhou University City. The south campus is located in the northeast of Xiaoguwei island in Panyu, covering an area of 1095 mu. In December, he received the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education and obtained the excellent grade (published by the Ministry of education in June 2004). In December, a mobile post doctoral research station for foreign language and literature was set up.
In March 2004, the non universal language teaching and research center became the Ministry of education foreign language non universal language undergraduate talent training base. In September, the South Campus (University Town Campus) welcomed the first batch of 4529 freshmen. The Management Committee of the south campus was set up with the principle of lean and efficient organization, and the implementation of "unified leadership, extended functions, combination of sections, and classified management". In January 2005, the plan of discipline adjustment and campus layout of Guangdong University of foreign studies was published and implemented. The College of basic English was renamed as the College of English education. This paper puts forward a new round of deepening five reforms, focusing on the implementation of college management by objectives. In November, the school held a 40th anniversary celebration meeting.
In February 2006, he obtained the right to confer a doctorate in foreign language and literature. In April, he was selected as the National College Students' cultural quality education base. In May, the second party congress of the University proposed "three five years, three steps to build Guangwai into a high-level teaching and research university". In July, the South Campus Management Committee was abolished, and the school department carried out its work in accordance with the requirements of "one department, two brands, one set of staff, and district operation". In September, College of English language and culture, College of western language and culture, College of Oriental Language and culture, and College of Chinese language and culture were organized in the north campus. Six colleges, including school of international business and economics, School of international business administration, School of English education, School of Information Science and technology, School of Journalism and communication, and School of art, were originally planned to settle in the south campus, except for graduates All the students outside the district enter the south campus. Except for the undergraduates of grade 2005 and 2006, the three colleges of International Business English, law and School of politics and public administration are arranged in the south campus, and the rest are arranged in the north campus.
In 2007, it was approved to become the authorized unit of MTI (Master of translation) and MBA (Master of Business Administration).
