Houyan Island

Houyan island is only 68 nautical miles away from Nanliao fishing port in Hsinchu, Taiwan, equivalent to 126 kilometers. At Houyan mountain in Pingtan, a 3-meter-high and 5-meter-wide stone tablet marking the closest point between the mainland and Taiwan island was built. It was inscribed with the scarlet letter "the nearest distance between the mainland and Taiwan island is 68 nautical miles, Pingtan, China" and carved with the location map of both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Houyan island is located in Dongao village, aoqian Town, Pingtan. On the island stands a stone tablet with the words "the nearest distance between Mainland China and Taiwan island is 68 nautical miles", 63 nautical miles away from Nanliao fishing port in Hsinchu, Taiwan.

Scenery

Standing by the sea, the island has been attacked by wind and waves all the year round, with jagged rocks and rare vegetation, which is a typical example of Pingtan Island. The whole Houyan island is full of rocks. None of these rocks is similar and each has its own characteristics. Some are dark red with smooth surface; some are dark gray with strange shape; most of them are light yellow big rocks on which many green plants cover and grow tenaciously. The scattered boulders, the fishing boats and the little cooking smoke from other people in the distance set off this quiet bay, which seems to have a soul frightening charm.

The sea is broad and grand against the blue sky and white clouds. Walking down from the mountain to the seaside and then to Houyan Island, many big stones stand on the island. Through the stone array, you can see the people on the other side.

With the stone tablet, there is a legend. It is said that a sow and a little pig went to Taiwan Island. When she encountered a big storm on the way, the sow drifted back to Houyan mountain, while the little pig drifted to Nanliao fishing port in Hsinchu. Later, the mother and the son stood at the nearest place, facing each other across the sea, and gradually became fossils. The story may be bloody, but the deep feeling across the sea is slowly looking back.

Tourism on the island has not yet been fully developed. It is suitable for those who prefer more original ecology and simplicity. The plot of "Mountain Alliance and sea oath" and "Haigu and Shilan" is also suitable for performing here.
