The chumar River Basin and its surrounding area, the northern source of the Yangtze River, is one of the largest no man's land in China. With an average altitude of 4500 meters, Kekexili is the most concentrated area of Tibetan antelope, wild yak and wild donkey, which are endemic to the Tibetan Plateau in China. In recent years, due to the influx of illegal poachers, the number of wild animals has decreased sharply. Due to the lack of funds, the local government has limited the scope and power to protect wild animals. On January 18, 1994, in order to protect the Tibetan antelope, suonan Dajie, Secretary of the Western Working Committee of Zhiduo County, shot 18 poachers and died bravely.

Establishment of Protection Station

After more than a year, the Preparatory Committee for the "protect the source of the Yangtze River, love my nature" activity (the predecessor of Green River) made many efforts, but failed to raise enough funds for the construction of the station. Finally, Yang Xin wrote her experience of exploring the source of the Yangtze River as a Book - "the soul of the Yangtze River", bought building materials with the money from the charity sale book, and recruited 12 volunteers to work in the West Working Committee of Zhiduo county On September 10, 1997, with the assistance of the government, the sonandajie Nature Reserve was set up at the foot of Kunlun mountain on the east side of Hoh Xil as the forefront base of anti poaching work in Hoh Xil. It promotes the process of protection of Tibetan antelope in Hoh Xil.

In August 1998, with the financial support of enterprises such as Shenzhen int'ai Investment Co., Ltd. and environmentalists such as Wang Shi, college student volunteers and engineering and technical personnel volunteers from Sichuan, Beijing, Guangdong and Qinghai built solar heating equipment and automatic microcomputer controlled diesel boiler heating device, 800 Watt Solar and wind power generation equipment, and high altitude heating equipment for sonan Dajie nature reserve Watchtower, multi-function hall, kitchen, toilet, etc.

In September 1999, with the support of Hong Kong Friends of the earth, we completed the laying of laminate flooring, the construction of storage rooms, roads and the improvement of living facilities in sonan Dajie nature reserve. In the same year, the environmental protection monument of "Yangtze River source" was planned. On June 5 of that year, the environmental protection monument of "Yangtze River source" inscribed by President Jiang Zemin was completed along the Tuotuo River.

In 2000, through the charity sale of the album "the source of the Yangtze River", the protection station was equipped with 1400W wind and solar power generation equipment. At the end of the year, it was equipped with computers and satellite phones, and a new Beijing jeep was purchased. So far, the facilities of sonandajie nature reserve are the best configuration of all units in the source area of the Yangtze River, which is ready for the implementation of the volunteer mechanism. On January 1, 2001, the volunteer mechanism of sonandajie Nature Reserve started. By 2002, more than 200 volunteers and college students have volunteered at the protection station Cable station also provides accommodation service for travelers, but has no catering service capacity.

In June 2014, the cable station still faced the problems of shortage of funds, shortage of water, old equipment and old living facilities.
