Chuansha Catholic Church

Chuansha Catholic Church is a famous Gothic church in Shanghai. The church was built in 1872, the 11th year of Tongzhi, which was earlier than the 6th year of Xianfeng (1856).

Chuansha Catholic Church is a two-story building with Latin cross plan and Basilica hall. The shape is a single bell tower, Gothic. The bell tower is located in the upper part of the entrance of the main facade, with a conical spire at the top and three bronze bells hanging inside. The exterior wall is a fair faced wall made of green and red, and the doors and windows are pointed. The interior of the church is in the form of beam column and pointed arch rib roof, all painted with gray lath. The interior of the hall is paved with parquet tiles, and the walls and windows are painted with figures, flowers and characters. There are three sacrificial platforms. The main altar is dedicated to the statue of Jesus' sacred heart, which is more than eight feet high. It reveals the pure heart, opens its arms, shows kindness and love. The left and right altars are dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Joseph's embrace of Jesus, each of which is purchased from France. The Catholic Church covers a total area of 5040 square meters, and the lobby covers an area of 575.49 square meters. The whole building is simple, solemn and solid.

In Chuansha town, there is a famous Gothic church, the Catholic Church of the sacred heart of Jesus. The church was built in 1872, the 11th year of Tongzhi, which was earlier than the 6th year of Xianfeng (1856). Fei Zhihe, a French priest, came to Chengxiang Town, Sichuan Province to buy the foundation of the temple of God of wealth. His plan to build a Catholic Church was not completed for some reason. Later, it was built by Kangzhi Taixing, a French priest, and named it "the Church of the Lord of Jesus". Yu Lansheng of Haimen, a relative of Huang Chongshang, the priest of Houben church, vowed to rebuild the hall with sole investment. Therefore, the foundation stone laying ceremony was held on May 24, 1926, which was completed in the winter of. The ceremony was completed on October 10, 1926, and it was renamed "the Church of the holy heart of Jesus".

During the cultural revolution, the internal facilities of the Catholic Church were destroyed until Christmas in 1982. In 1998, a new pavilion named "Xuanyi rosemary" was built outside the hall.
