In ancient times, the stone carvings along the tomb path were called stone Xiangsheng. According to the identity of the tomb owner, they were allocated according to the regulations at that time. According to preliminary statistics, there are more than 180 stone carvings in more than 30 tombs in Shangshui, Shuishui, Hanling, Hengjie, fuquanshan, etc., including Wenchen (Zhong), Wujiang (Yong), crouching tiger (Jie), Lima (Yi), kneeling sheep (Xiao), which are arranged on both sides of the tombs in pairs; some also have stalagmite tombstone columns, stone Taishi chairs, imitation wood stone archways, etc. Among these stone carvings, the largest stone carvings for civil servants and military generals are as high as 3.5 meters. They are accurate in shape, vivid in expression, solemn or angry, and lifelike. On the body, the beam crown and helmet tassels, the wind wings and ear protectors, the square heart curved collar, and the robes and clothes are all carved in a very specific and delicate way. Animal stone carvings have various shapes and movements, and various decorative patterns. These rich and complete historical remains fully demonstrate the extraordinary creativity of stone carving art in the Southern Song Dynasty. The stone carvings on the Southern Song tombs in Dongqian Lake are of high historical, academic and artistic value.
