The old station building of Tianjin west railway station is the waiting room of the former Tianjin west railway station. history

In September 1898, the British and German capital groups held a meeting in London and decided to undertake the Tianjin Zhenjiang Railway (Tianjin Zhenjiang). The Qing government succumbed to the pressure and signed a loan agreement in May 1899. In 1908, it signed a loan contract and changed the Jinzhen railway into the Jinpu (Nanjing Pukou) railway. But what is different is that the construction of the north section of Jinpu railway started from the half section at that time, from liangwangzhuang in Jinghai County to Tianjin city, because the address of the starting point of Tianjin has not been determined. The inspector sent by LV Haihuan, the Minister of railway supervision, submitted a very valuable material: "there are more than two hectares of open space behind zhaojiachang in Hebei Province. The terrain is flat, and there are neither houses nor graves, which can be used for the construction of the general station." At that time, the so-called "Hebei zhaojiachang" was actually the area from beiyingmen to the South Canal in Hongqiao District. Because the south canal was not cut at that time, it was called "Hebei zhaojiachang" on the Hebei bank, only 500 meters away from today's Tianjin west railway station. Later, zhaojiachang station, the waiting room of Tianjin west station, was built here.

Architecture

The main station building of Tianjin west passenger station is a two-story building with brick concrete structure. The whole building faces north and south. The facade emphasizes symmetrical composition, rich modeling, and the building plane is convex. The top of the building is a red tile slope with tiger windows and chimneys

The facade of the building is a fair faced brick wall with stone windows, columns, flower decorations and entrance steps. It is carved with the design of Antarctic fairy, crane and dragon mouth. It is a combination of Chinese and Western styles. The window style and window cover are varied. It is a typical eclectic German neoclassical building.

Translation and protection

On September 24, 2009, the waiting building of Tianjin west railway station was moved to the new site by sliding friction translation method. This is the first translation project of timber structure building in Tianjin. In the first stage, it was moved to the south for 135 meters. On October 23, the second stage moved 40 meters eastward. At 11:00 a.m. on November 9, the translation of the waiting building of Tianjin west railway station was completed, reaching the terminal point of the foundation of the new site. On May 4, 2010, the reconstruction of the waiting building of the West Railway Station entered the overall lifting stage. The engineering design is to lift the waiting building by 3.6 meters with 98 jacks. After the translation, the Xiaoyang building of the west railway station will remain as the Railway Museum forever, and together with Xigu Park, it will form two major landscapes of the sub center of Tianjin west railway station.

The principle of this renovation is "repair the old as before, organic renewal". According to the old photos and historical archives of the waiting building, the original tiger windows and chimneys will be restored, and the drainage pipes, air conditioning and other outdoor facilities installed on the facade of the wall will be covered.
