The origin of the predecessor

Wuhan University of water resources and electric power (Yichang campus)

In April 1978, the State Council approved the establishment of Gezhouba College of hydropower engineering. In May of the same year, the Ministry of hydropower issued a document to establish the college.

In April 1988, the Ministry of energy and the Ministry of water resources were established after the merger of the Ministry of coal industry, the Ministry of petroleum industry, the Ministry of nuclear industry and the Ministry of water resources and electric power.

In March 1993, after the institutional reform of the State Council and the revocation of the Ministry of energy, Gezhouba College of hydropower engineering was directly under the Ministry of electric power industry.

In May 1996, Gezhouba College of hydropower engineering and Wuhan University of water resources and electric power merged to form a new Wuhan University of water resources and electric power. Gezhouba College of hydropower engineering was changed into Yichang campus of Wuhan University of water resources and electric power, and became a part of "211 Project" construction university.

 

Hubei Three Gorges University

（1） Yichang Teachers College

In September 1946, after the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the Hubei Provincial Department of education of the national government approved the establishment of the provincial Yidu normal school.

In 1950, it was renamed Yichang normal school.

In the summer of 1958, he moved to Yichang. In the autumn of the same year, it was renamed Yichang normal college, which was inscribed by revolutionary educator Xu Teli.

In 1977, it was renamed Yichang Branch of central China Normal University.

In 1978, it was renamed Yichang teachers college.

（2） Yichang Medical College

In November 1949, Hubei provincial government established Hubei public medical college.

In 1958, Hubei public medical college (part) was transformed into Yichang medical college.

In June 1993, it was renamed Yichang medical college.

（3） Yichang Vocational University

In September 1978, Yichang municipal government set up Yichang higher industry specialty class.

In May 1983, it was renamed Yichang Vocational University.

（4） Three schools merge

In July 1995, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the people's Government of Hubei Province issued a document to merge Yichang normal college, Yichang Medical College and Yichang Vocational University to form Hubei Three Gorges University, which is a provincial undergraduate university.

 

Merger development

On May 25, 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the former Wuhan University of water resources and electric power (Yichang) and the former Hubei Three Gorges University merged to form the Three Gorges University.

In 2004, the headquarters of Three Gorges university completed the campus expansion, and all the undergraduate majors of the other three campuses moved to the headquarters, realizing the goal of running a school in one place.

In 2008, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved Three Gorges University as the construction unit of the doctoral degree awarding right.

In 2009, the Ministry of water resources and the people's Government of Hubei Province signed an agreement to jointly build three Gorges University.

 

In 2011, the University was selected into the second batch of "excellent engineer education and training plan" universities of the Ministry of education.

In 2012, it became one of the first batch of pilot units of 66 undergraduate colleges and universities in China by the Ministry of education.

 

In March 2013, the Ministry of Education officially issued a letter, and the University obtained the qualification of recruiting Chinese government scholarship students to China. In August, Three Gorges University received a document from the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and officially became a doctoral degree awarding unit. In December, Three Gorges University adjusted its disciplines and established the school of mechanics and power, the school of materials and chemical engineering, the school of biology and pharmacy, the school of law and public administration, and the graduate school.

In February 2014, it was selected as the second batch of construction units of study abroad demonstration base announced by the Ministry of education. In October, he officially became a member of the United Nations academic influence.

In June 2016, Three Gorges University was included in the basic capacity building project of universities in central and Western China (phase II).

In January 2018, the University was listed by the provincial people's government as a "domestic first-class university" construction university.
