Formerly known as changfuyan, it is located on Minsheng Road in Sanxia town. It was founded in 1769, the 34th year of Qianlong reign of Qing Dynasty. It is also known as the ancestral temple because it is dedicated to Chen Zhaoying, the founder of Qingshui. Since the middle of the Qing Dynasty, Qingshui ancestral temple has been the belief center of the Three Gorges area. Because the whole temple system follows the tradition and excellent folk artists are invited to participate in the construction, the exquisite temple with carved beams and painted buildings is created, which is known as the "palace of folk art". The ancestral temple, which covers an area of about 500 square meters, is full of exquisite and complicated wood, copper and stone carvings. Each woodcut is based on the legend of the Three Kingdoms, the list of gods and the journey to the West. The finished woodcuts are painted with white, red and yellow primer, and finally pasted with gold foil. Each piece is lifelike.

Historical evolution

The Three Gorges ancestral temple suffered from natural and man-made disasters twice. The third time, after the restoration, the artist Li Meishu led the design and planning to build the ancestral temple into a temple integrating history, culture and art. The whole ancestral temple is a building with wood as the top and stone as the base. It adopts the pattern of five gates and three halls. There are no places in the temple without carving and carving. The most splendid ones are stone and wood carvings. Among them, there are many national treasure masters. Zushi temple is not only the belief center of the Three Gorges area, but also famous at home and abroad for its exquisite carving, known as "Oriental Art Palace". The Three Gorges ancestral temple, formerly known as changfuyan, was built under the supervision of the late artist Li Meishu. The sixth day of the first month of the lunar calendar is the largest temple fair in the Three Gorges area. The traditional festivals, folk rituals and pig competition are worth visiting.

The appearance of the temple is exquisitely carved, and the exquisite, elegant, grand and other flavors of traditional Chinese architecture are fully displayed in the palace like a jade building. Together with the Longshan Temple and Baoan palace in Taipei, it is known as the three major temples in Taipei. The ancestral temple of Qingshui enjoys the reputation of "the palace of Oriental Art". What is particularly worth reading is that its architectural carving, which took more than 40 years and took time, shows the limits of traditional Chinese temple art.

Main features

1、 The building materials in the temple, from steps, floors, walls to pillars, are all works of art made of Guanyin stone. It is a temple with stone as its base and wood as its top.

2、 There are many pillars. One hundred and fifty-six stone pillars are selected and carved exquisitely. For example, a pair of stone pillars with "hundred birds in the morning plum blossom" and hundreds of birds are not only different in posture, but also different in species. They are either flying high or perching on the branches. They are all lively and lifelike. It takes at least one year or three or four years to carve each stone pillar.

The contents of the relief, wood and stone carvings of the ancestral temple are mostly based on the stories of loyalty, filial piety and righteousness in Chinese history. They are vivid and vivid, and their shapes and patterns are never repeated. In addition, there are abundant carvings on the beams, such as round, square, spiral, diamond, quadrangular, pentagonal, octagonal and dodecagonal. Then it is painted with red and red, or wrapped in gold foil one by one. It is glittering, magnificent and never fade.

The caisson on the top floor of the main hall is spiral. There are hundreds of carved lotus flowers on the top. There is an electric lamp in the middle of each flower. When the light is on, a hundred stamens shine like stars in the sky.

Numerous works of art are gathered in the Three Gorges ancestral temple, which has won the reputation of "Oriental Art Palace". It is not only a historic site attracting foreign tourists, but also a brilliant page in the history of Chinese arts and crafts.
