Mao ZeJian martyrs cemetery

Mao ZeJian, also known as Mao Daxiang, joined the Communist Party of China in 1923 and engaged in guerrilla struggle in Leiyang and Hengshan for a long time. He was arrested in a battle in Leiyang in 1928 and killed in mawangmiaoping, Hengshan County in 1929. He was only 24 years old. After Mao ZeJian died, the local people secretly buried him in the face of the Xiangjiang River, with his back against Zijin peak, one of the 72 peaks of Nanyue, which means that his majestic spirit coexists with heaven and earth, such as the Xiangjiang River. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, in accordance with the relevant documents of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, a new martyr cemetery was built on the right side of the original tomb in 1967.

Brief introduction to the cemetery

The whole mausoleum is made of granite and white marble. The entrance, passageway, tomb terrace, memorial tower and tomb pedestal are arranged in turn. It is lined with pines and cypresses, privet vines and other precious flowers and plants, which makes it solemn, solemn and elegant. The whole cemetery covers an area of 5.29 Mu and the tower is 8.2 meters high. In 1972, the cemetery was listed as a provincial cultural relic protection unit and became a patriotic education base for primary and secondary school students in Hengshan County. Every year during the Qingming Festival, members of the young pioneers and the Communist Youth League come here to present flowers and sweep tombs. At ordinary times, many visitors and local people visit the cemetery to admire the heroes and admire them. They have a good view of the Xiangjiang River from afar and the beautiful scenery from close quarters.
