Machang Temple

Machang temple, whose establishment can be traced back to the northern and Southern Dynasties, is located five miles east of luojian, and now belongs to mamiao village, Shangyao Town, Huainan City, Anhui Province. The temple is surrounded by a water ring, which is square; the temple has three floors, with the gate facing south. On the first floor, there is a gatehouse with three characters of "Tianqi Temple"; on the second floor, there is a hall, where three Buddhas and four vajras are worshipped; on the third floor, there is the back hall, where the Bodhisattva is the great emperor of Dongyue.

Xiao Yan (464-549 A.D.), the emperor of Liang Wu in the Southern Dynasty, attached great importance to the gentry, brutally suppressed the peasant uprising, and used Buddhism to anesthetize people to consolidate his rule. He built temples all over the country. Tianqi temple was established to meet the needs of the ruling class at that time.

At the end of Ming Dynasty, the ruling class cruelly exploited and oppressed the people, which aroused the anger of the people all over the country. The leader of the east route army attacked Fengyang and burned the imperial mausoleum. In order to save the defeat, the Ming Dynasty sent troops to suppress it, and set up troops to camp about Bali in the northwest of Shangyao and Sanli in the south of Luohe ancient town (now Huaijian Village). In the middle of Tianqi temple, there is a vast and smooth area, which is a good place to herd and train horses. Therefore, it is used as a stable, so people call Tianqi Temple Machang temple.

The temple was destroyed in the war. After the reform and opening up, the Fang family raised funds to build a gate tower on its original site. Fang Yankang, the former chairman of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference in Datong District, wrote the name of the temple "Tianqi Temple" to hang in the center of the gate tower, and built walls around it and four bungalows to display biographies of Fang's celebrities. Every year, the 15th day of the first lunar month is the temple fair. At that time, dozens of people from surrounding villages go to the fair, and all kinds of literary and artistic programs compete to perform. Its grand occasion is well-known.
