Nanxiang ancient town in Jiading

Nanxiang ancient town is one of the four famous historical towns in Shanghai. As early as the fourth year of Liang Tianjian (AD 505), Baihe Nanxiang temple was built, which got its name. In history, it once had the reputation of "little Nanxiang saisu city". It has a long history, rich cultural heritage and rich tourism resources.

It has Guyi garden, one of the four classical gardens in the south of the Yangtze River, Tianen bridge built in Shunzhi period of Qing Dynasty, Yunxiang temple, brick pagoda of Five Dynasties and other historical sites. Nanxiang Xiaolong, with a history of more than 100 years, is still delicious and has become one of the characteristics and symbols of Nanxiang. In addition, there have been a large number of celebrities in the ancient town, such as Li Liufang, one of the four masters of Jiading in the Ming Dynasty, Wu Zhiyu, a famous bamboo Carver in the Qing Dynasty, and Lu Yanshao, a contemporary master of traditional Chinese painting. About a mile to the south of the town, there is the only golf course with night lighting in Shanghai, the Oriental Paris Golf and country club, covering an area of about 400 mu.

Development history

Nanxiang was known as chaxi in ancient times. When Emperor Wu of Liang Dynasty was founded, Nanxiang was just a desolate village. One day, when the local farmers were working on the land, they found a big stone block more than 10 meters long. As soon as the stone was exposed, a pair of red crowned cranes circled over the stone and landed on it to rest. A monk named Deqi thought it was a Buddhist land and decided to build a Buddhist temple here. Strange to say, every day the crane flies to which direction, which direction someone comes to offer money, every day so, never stop. Soon a large sum of money was raised and ground was broken to build the temple. In 505 (the fourth year of Liang Tianjian), Baihe Nanxiang temple was built. Because the temple became a town, it was named Nanxiang.

There are five dynasties brick pagodas rarely seen in China, and Guyi garden, which is still a famous scenic spot in Nanxiang. One mile to the north of the town, there is a Tushan named Hecha mountain, which is said to be the beacon pier built by Han Shizhong, a famous anti Jin general in the Song Dynasty. About one mile to the south of the town, there is the only golf course in Shanghai with night lighting, the Oriental Paris Golf and country club, covering an area of about 400 mu. It is an ideal base for leisure, entertainment and business. All these have laid a good foundation for Nanxiang's tourism. The LiuYun Temple (formerly Yunxiang Temple) under construction will add new content to Nanxiang's tourism.
