Shachang reservoir, also known as Jinding lake, was completed in May 1973. It is located in the east of Shachang village in the lower reaches of Hongmenchuan River in Miyun County, Beijing. The water inlet of the reservoir is located in beishanxiaxin village, 20 kilometers away from Miyun County and 85 kilometers away from the urban area, with a total area of more than 40 hectares.

Construction history

It was completed in May 1973, with a total of 1.605 million cubic meters of earthwork completed. It has a total storage capacity of 21.2 million cubic meters, a normal water surface area of 426000 square meters, and controls 128 square kilometers of the upper reaches of Hongmenchuan river. It has one main dam, three auxiliary dams, one spillway, two water pipelines and two power stations. The maximum height of the main dam is 47m and the crest length is 230m. It is a concrete wide joint gravity dam. The average annual water supply is 14.66 million cubic meters, the average annual power generation is more than 500000 kwh, and the irrigation area is 40000 mu.

Jinding lake is surrounded by mountains. The deepest part of the reservoir is 35 meters, and the dam is 47 meters high. The lake is wide and clean. The water of the lake rises gently with the wind. When you go boating on the lake, you can have a panoramic view of the surrounding scenery, which is calm and natural. The sand along the lake bank is very fine, so the local people call this artificial lake Shachang reservoir. The natural bathing beach has clear water and fine sand. It can swim and fish. Because the surrounding mountains are not high, the slope is gentle, and the vegetation is dense, there are many wild birds.

Go over Miyun County, go to G101 national highway, drive 21 km, turn right before reaching xiawanzi, and go straight to Dayu. You will see the reservoir soon after.
