Brand history

In 1772, the small mill was established in bowling on the Clyde river. Its predecessor was an old brewery in dungrass castle, called the small mill.

On November 2, 1773, the second year after the establishment of the small mill, Robert Muir, an employee, obtained the first license for the winery.

In 1817, ownership of the winery was transferred to Matthew Clark Co.

In 1875, the small mill winery was rebuilt and expanded by hay Co.

In 1823, the small mill was licensed by Ms. Jane MacGregor. The small mill became the first distillery licensed by a woman in the world.

In 1840, the ownership was transferred to hector Henderson, a shareholder in the Campbell town brewery.

In 1851, the small mill shipyard opened in frisky hall orchard. It had been in operation for 128 years and closed in 1979.

In 1875, the small mill winery was rebuilt and expanded by hay Co.

In 1929, the small mill was temporarily closed.

In 1931, the ownership of the small mill was transferred to Duncan Thomas. After the reopening, Duncan Thomas carried out a series of technological innovations in the winery.

In 1971, the ownership of the small mill was transferred to Barton distilling.

In 1984, the small mill closed for a short time again.

In 1989, the small mill changed its ownership again, and the ownership was transferred to Gibson international, which was reopened again.

In 1994, after the ownership of the small mill distillery was transferred to the Bulloch family, it fell into a permanent silence.

In 1997, the small mill brewery was demolished.

In 2004, a big fire completely destroyed the small mill.

Brand characteristics

The small mill distillery continues to create malt whisky in low property areas. The water source of Kilpatrick hills, the peat of Stornoway and the malt of Perthshire, which are located to the north of the highland boundary, are used.

In 1931, Duncan Thomas reopened the small mill. It was him:

1. The new design of Saladin box for germination was introduced, and double ventilation tower and single malt drying kiln were adopted.

2. At the same time, the traditional three times distillation in low production area was changed into two times distillation, and a new distiller was installed. This distiller combines copper pot body and distillation tower, instead of gooseneck distiller, which can better control the distillation process.

During this period, the small mill has the ability to produce three styles of Single Malt Whisky - traditional small mill lowland whisky and two experimental malt whiskies - dunbuck whisky, and dunglass whisky named after the nearby castle.
