Fuhong Bridge

Fuhong bridge is a stone beam bridge with unique shape at the west entrance of Hougang. The stone bar in the middle of the bridge is engraved with symmetrical patterns, and the word "Fuhong bridge" is engraved in the middle. But the local people call it Hongqiao and forget its real name. The bridge was rebuilt by Li people during the reign of Emperor Kangxi and rebuilt in 1784. The bridge is 16.4m long and 2.1m wide. The span is 4.7m. It is said that during the period of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, the peasant uprising army resisted the rule of the Qing government and failed for many reasons. At that time, a Taiping army was exiled from other places to Anchang. The local landlords and gentry were very afraid and colluded with the Qing government. On the one hand, they spread a lot of rumors, slandered them as the "long hair" with blue faces and fangs, and on the other hand, they waited for an opportunity to suppress the Taiping army. One day, Huang Tongling, the big landlord, gathered the armed forces of the landlords and brutally killed hundreds of Taiping soldiers on the Fuhong bridge. The blood of the Taiping soldiers dyed the stone steps of the Fuhong bridge and the clear Hougang river red.
