Cave 11 is an earlier central square tower cave in Yungang. The central tower is divided into two layers. The lower tower accounts for about two-thirds of the body of the tower. The Buddha is carved in four directions. On the south side of the upper tower is a cross legged statue, and on the other three sides are small standing statues.
The layout of the cave is all asymmetric. The west wall is covered with Buddhist treasures in various forms, with exquisite carvings and no unified layout. On the east wall, there is a "statue of the seventh year of Taihe" and ninety-five statues carved by 54 believers in the city. These Buddhist straights were carved independently by the good believers at that time for the sake of cultivating their merits and virtues, which is the reason for the formation of this asymmetric sculpture without unified layout. The south wall is different from the east wall and the west wall. Among them, there are pagodas, jiletian, donors and Thousand Buddha niches.
The layout of the cave is asymmetric. It broke the long-standing tradition of opening Grottoes in China, in which the main body stood out and the two wings faced each other. The layout of this cave is that the small niches in the East are well arranged, and the seven Buddhas standing out of the eaves in the West. According to some experts, the appearance of this layout is: "at that time, the state invested to open large caves, and the private raised funds to fill small niches." It's a reflection of the world.
