Cave 5 is a relatively mature cave excavated in the middle of Yungang Grottoes. It was excavated during the reign of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty (470-494 A.D.), and was invested by the royal family. Therefore, the space scale of the cave and the Buddha statues are very large. The overall plan of the cave is oval, with a dome at the top. The main statue is the third Buddha. The main statue of Sakyamuni is the first height of tens of thousands of stone Buddhas in Yungang with a height of 17 meters. More than 100 people can stand on the knees, with a middle finger of 2.3 long and two knees The distance between them is 14.3 meters, which can be called the top of Ten Thousand Buddhas in Yungang Grottoes. Just as Wang Du, a poet of Yuan Dynasty, wrote, "towering peaks, dangerous pavilions and the sky together, overlooking the world and low everywhere.". It is said that this Buddha was carved by Emperor Xiaowen for his father Xianwen. Cave 5 is one of the best preserved caves in Yungang Grottoes.
