Tianyahaijiao tourist area is located 23 kilometers southwest of Sanya City, Hainan Province, on the headland between Sanya Bay and Hongtang Bay. The total area is 16.4 square kilometers, including 10.4 square kilometers of land area and 6 square kilometers of sea area.

It is named after the two huge stones in the scenic spot are respectively engraved with "Tianya", "Haijiao" and "Tianya Haijiao tourist area" inscribed by Mr. Guo Moruo.

The natural landscape of Tianya Haijiao is composed of large beach rock, Xiamaling, Tianya Bay, sand beach and sea water.

The main scenic spots in the tourist area are "Tianya" stone, "Haijiao" stone, "South tianyizhu" and so on.

In 1994, Tianyahaijiao scenic spot was awarded the national key scenic spot; in 2001, Tianyahaijiao scenic spot became the national AAAA scenic spot.

Historical evolution

The earliest stone carving in Tianyahaijiao tourist area was the "sea judging the South sky" in 1714, which was made by three Imperial Envoys in the early Qing Dynasty who mapped the "Huangyu panorama" and was the "South Cross" of the Qing territory.

In 1727, the fifth year of Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty, Cheng Zhe, the governor of Yazhou, inscribed the word "Tianya" on the seashore boulder.

In the first year of Xuantong (1909), fan YUNTI, the governor of Yazhou, wrote "a pillar in the South sky".

During the Anti Japanese War, General Wang Yi, commander of KMT's QiongYa garrison, re inscribed the word "Haijiao" on the adjacent boulders.

In December 1984, Tianyahaijiao Scenic Area Management Office was established.

In June 1986, Sanya Tourism Administration was established.

In November 1987, Sanya Tourism Bureau was upgraded to a bureau unit with an office, a tourism management section, a planning section, a publicity section, an enterprise management section and a market development section.

In 1990, the Management Office of Tianyahaijiao scenic spot was upgraded to a sub department level unit with six departments and one room.

In September 1998, the Management Office of Tianyahaijiao scenic spot was abolished.

In January 2018, the scenic spot passed the re certification audit of the new version of ISO9001 quality management system and ISO14001 environmental management system, and the first certification audit of occupational health and safety management.

Tianyahaijiao tourist area is close to the mountain and faces the sea. The highest peak in the area is xiaqiaoling (41.7 m above sea level). In addition, there are a series of hills such as pinganling (240.5 m above sea level) and bojiling (96.6 m above sea level). The terrain in the northeast is slightly low and the undulation is relatively slow. Through this, the Dabing river flows into the South China Sea from north to South at xiaoqigang in the northeast of the scenic area.

Tianyahaijiao tourist area is located in the tropical low latitude area, belongs to the tropical marine monsoon climate, with the characteristics of marine climate: long summer and no winter; sufficient sunshine, large evaporation, affected by the tropical airflow and tropical monsoon.

In 1994, Tianyahaijiao scenic spot became the third batch of national key scenic spots announced by the State Council.

Love between Tianya Lang and Haijiao girl

It is said that, 100000 years ago, Tianya Lang and Haijiao NV, the two tribes of Tianya and Haijiao, were a pair of childhood sweethearts. However, due to the sudden disaster, most of the civilization achievements of the two tribes disappeared. Later, on the way to the South with the surviving tribesmen, the Cape girl fell ill with acacia and was unconscious. Therefore, the son of another tribe made the Cape girl pay the price and cured her illness. The price was that she could not leave the tribe. Because of this, the Cape girl was forced to marry the son of the mountain. However, after entering the bridal chamber, the Cape girl's miserable experience moved the son of Shan, but there was no way to break the spell.

On the second day of their marriage, the Cape girl quietly left. At this time, the leader of the tribe put a more serious curse: "the Cape girl will live alone in the wilderness, and anyone who embraces her will turn into a stone!" After that, the Haijiao girl, who had gone through many hardships, found Tianya lang. when they were happy, they turned into stones and watched the boundless sea silently.

In ancient times, there was a man and a woman in the mainland who loved each other from childhood. However, when they grow up, their parents will find another spouse for them. So they eloped hand in hand. With the end of the world and the corner of the sea, they hugged each other tightly and wanted to throw both into the sea for their oath. The separated lovers stand on the shore and turn to stone.

 

The legend of Sun Moon Stone

It is said that in ancient times, there was a young man and woman in the palace who loved each other deeply, but the rules of the palace did not allow them to be together. Therefore, they escaped from the palace and traveled a long way to Hainan Island. One evening, they went to the seaside to watch the sunset as usual. The husband affectionately said a word to his wife, then jumped into the sea, after the wife also open arms, into the sea. From then on, these two heart-shaped stones rose from the sea.

From December 20, 2019 to February 29, 2020, some activities of the first Sanya International Flower Tourism Festival will be held in Tianyahaijiao tourist area.

 

The opening ceremony of the 6th Asian Beach Games in 2020 will be held in the Tianya Haijiao scenic spot of Sanya.
