In the spring of 1941, because the Kuomintang reactionaries at that time imposed economic blockade on the Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia border region and the Anti Japanese base area, in the spring of 1941, the 359 brigade of the 120th division of the Eighth Route Army entered Nanniwan to carry out reclamation and production self-help.

In December 2016, Nanniwan revolutionary site was listed in the National Red Tourism classic scenic spot list.

Nanniwan is 34 kilometers southeast of Yan'an. In the spring of 1941, in order to smash the Kuomintang's military siege and economic blockade, the 359th brigade of the 120th division of the Eighth Route Army, responding to the call of the CPC Central Committee to carry out the mass production movement, set out from the Suide garrison area to settle here, making it a "good Jiangnan in Northern Shaanxi". Cause of formation

In 1942, the 359th brigade of the Eighth Route Army went to Nanniwan. In three years, it reached the goal of "the fragrance of rice in Pingchuan, the pond full of fat ducks, crops everywhere, cattle and sheep everywhere". All the materials and funds were self-sufficient, and 10000 shekels of public grain were handed over to the government, so as to provide sufficient food and clothing. In September 1943, Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Zhou Enlai, Peng Dehuai, Ren Bishi, Xu Teli, Lin Boqu and Li Dingming visited Nanniwan. From the jujube garden to taobaoyu by car, and then to ride a horse, while walking to see the crops. Wang Zhen and Wang Enmao rode to meet Mao Zedong and his party from Jinpen Bay of the brigade. Mao Zedong went to the fields, barracks and kitchens to see the army's production, training and living conditions, and gave warm greetings to the cadres and soldiers. Wang Zhen reported to Chairman Mao and his party: "the army has achieved all self-sufficiency, not taking a grain of rice, an inch of cloth or a cent from the government." Mao Zedong said happily: "difficulties are not unconquerable monsters. If we conquer them, they will bow down. At present, we have no foreign aid. If we have foreign aid in the future, we still have to rely on ourselves. " Then he said, "the KMT wants to trap us and starve us. The more they are trapped, the fatter we become. The trapped comrades have eliminated liuguai disease (an endemic disease) Mao Zedong lived in Yangwan village for seven days and inspected Mafang, jinpenwan and jiulongquan successively. He also inspected taobaoyu artillery school.
