Friendship Square

Friendship Square is a circular closed island square, located in the center of Dalian. It was built for 50 years to commemorate the friendship between China and the Soviet Union. In the center of the square, there is a huge crystal ball weighing 117 tons and 15 meters in diameter, surrounded by 3120 pieces of coated glass. There are 7852 colored lights in the ball, which can change into red, yellow and green lights at night. It is a good place for tourists to take photos.

Dalian Friendship Square was built in the period of the colonial rule of Russia, and it was called the west square in the period of Japanese rule. In the 1950s, it was renamed Friendship Square to commemorate the friendship between China and the Soviet Union. It is adjacent to Zhongshan Square in the East, Shengli square in the west, and Tianjin Street commercial street in the north. It is located at the intersection of the most prosperous commercial street and the busiest Central Business District, witnessing and demonstrating the vigorous development of Dalian all the time. The northeast part of the square is a European church style building. The dark red walls and sharp roof add a sense of simplicity and elegance to the modern square.

On the west side of Friendship Square is the Friendship Square Station of Metro Line 2, which is the nearest subway station to the South Square of Dalian railway station.
