Yuzui breakwater

Yuzui breakwater, also known as "Yuzui", is the water diversion project of Dujiangyan. Yuzui breakwater is located in the deepest part of Dujiangyan, which is the most spectacular and worth seeing place in Dujiangyan water conservancy project, and can be regarded as the essence of Dujiangyan.

It is said that during the Japanese invasion of China, the bombers were sent to blow up Dujiangyan. However, the bombers circled in the air and did not find the imagined dam. As a result, the miracle of Dujiangyan was preserved. As a matter of fact, Yuzui is the dam that separates the inner river from the outer river. This cobblestone building, like the mouth of a fish, is not flat. It makes the river water flow straight down into the outer river in rainy season, and retains enough water to flow into the inner river in dry season, so that the crops in Chengdu basin can survive.

After watching Yuzui, walk along Anlan cable bridge, cross the turbulent Minjiang River, and continue to visit Erwang temple.

Yuzui breakwater

Yuzui breakwater is a breakwater shaped like a fish's mouth. It holds its head high in the center of the Minjiang River and divides the Minjiang River into internal and external rivers. The west side is called Waijiang River, commonly known as "Jinma River", which is the normal flow of Minjiang River and mainly used for flood discharge; the east side is called Neijiang River at the foot of mountain, which is an artificial diversion channel and mainly used for irrigation.

The significance of fish mouth lies in the function of water and sediment diversion of branching rivers. For example, in the dry season of winter and spring, the water level of Minjiang River is relatively low, the main stream line of the river flows close to the concave bank of the valley, and the water diversion dike flows about six tenths of the river water into the inner river and four tenths of the river water into the outer river, thus ensuring the water consumption of the irrigation area, referred to as "four six water diversion"; During the flood season in summer and autumn, the water level of Minjiang River is relatively high, the main stream line of the river is relatively straight, and most of the river water flows to the convex bank. Therefore, the dividing dike discharges six tenths of the river water into the outer river, and four tenths of the river water into the inner river. Obviously, this is a scientific water diversion method created by Li Bing, who has mastered the water and sediment diversion characteristics of the bifurcations, i.e. Jiangxinzhou (jingangdi) and Zhoutou (Yuzui), and also made use of the circulation and discharge characteristics of the Neijiang River with a plane curve.
