The couplet was engraved on the column of Tianmen square slightly north of Confucius' visit in 1560, which was destroyed in the cultural revolution. Square column height 280 cm, word diameter 20 cm, regular script.

It is said that when Confucius was more than 30 years old, he left the state of Lu for the state of Qi and climbed Mount Tai. Another time, Confucius and his student Yan Hui climbed Mount Tai together. When Confucius looked to the southeast, he saw the changmen gate under Suzhou City and a white horse under the changmen gate. He asked Yan Hui, "do you see the gate?" Yan Hui said, "I see." Confucius asked, "do you see anything under the gate?" Yan Hui couldn't see clearly. He thought it was a mass of white silk. Confucius corrected him and said it was a white horse. Soon after they went down the mountain, Yan Hui's body changed a lot. His hair turned white, his teeth fell off, and he was very old.

It can be seen from this legend: first, Confucius climbed Mount Tai more than once; second, he told people that it was very difficult to climb Mount Tai at that time. Yan Hui may not be able to bear such hardships, leading to illness; Confucius is in good health, not only far away than Yan Huiwang, but also no discomfort after going down the mountain.
