Next to Anren Street on the west side of the new "ancient city park" near the extension of the Bund from Shiliupu to Nanpu Bridge, walking along Fuyou road and Anren street, you will suddenly find a courtyard with high walls of green bricks. Two sculptures on the wall of the main entrance are unusual: in the big round frame, the God of wealth stands in the small box. This is the most famous money office in old Shanghai.
This "ancient" building, located in the "ancient city park" in Anren street, Renmin Road, was built in 1883. It was originally a place for Shencheng money industry to discuss business and pay for gods. Its original site is No. 133, beishijianong, outside the Dadong gate of the old city. It is the physical remains of the earliest "bank club" in Shanghai and the early history of financial development. It is also the evidence of the development history of China's own financial system before the modern financial and banking system entered China.
