The "Tainan canal" was designed by Hutai Matsumoto during the Japanese rule period. It was completed in 1926 and has been opened for more than 80 years. For most people in Tainan, the canal is not only an artery for waterway transportation, but also a part of life, memory, experience and inheritance.
The Canal Museum, the former Anping customs of the Tainan canal, was built in the Japanese era. It used to be the gateway for merchant ships to enter and leave Anping port. Imported merchant ships had to berth here to pay customs duties. Later, due to the passage of time, it was once in ruins. Now, the renovation has been completed and the original appearance has reappeared, adding a more classical beauty.
In February 2005, the Canal Museum was officially opened to the public. There are many old photos of the canal and ship models on display in the museum. Outside the Canal Museum is a beautiful garden with old banyan trees and wooden plank road built along the river. It is the best place for tourists to have a rest!
