It is said that it was built by Han Zhuozhou, Prime Minister of the Song Dynasty. In 1929, Tang Shengzhi, commander in chief of the first route army of the national revolution, came to Lushan. Seeing that the tower was decadent, he initiated the renovation. When excavating the underground palace at the base of the pagoda, many Buddhist relics were found. There are one silver body lying Buddha, 9 inches long, weighing about 1 jin; one silver long flat box, more than 2 jin, more than 20 feet long; one crystal Buddha, 5 inches long; one crystal bead; one silver vase, containing hundreds of crystal beads; several sarikos; one silver gold vase; two Sanskrit seals, more than 20 inches long; three bronze Arhats. According to the inscriptions on the back of the golden body Tathagata, the pagoda was originally built in 1069 A.D. in the 11th year of song zhezong. It was actually built by Zhu Sanniang and others in Qizhou, Hubei Province, before Han Xiangzhou became prime minister.
