The official residence, built in 1940, is a typical representative of the Japanese style residence in Heyang. After the Meiji era, the Japanese residence was influenced by the western wind. In addition to the tatami in the bedroom, the halls or study tended to be westernized, and the western style furniture such as sofa and bookcase were placed. This style is called "Heyang hehe" architecture. At that time, the Taipei mayor's residence was listed as the first-class official residence, with a base of 800 Ping and a construction site of 300 Ping. At present, the governor's residence in Taitung is the most complete preserved official residence in the Japanese era.
